AO3 filters are incredible. The show ended over a decade ago but you're only getting around to watching it now, and you want to avoid spoilers for later seasons? No worries; you can filter out anything posted/updated after a given air date. Don't want to see crossovers? Guess what -- you don't have to. Three clicks is all it takes to make them go away. ONLY want crossovers? They've got that option, too. In a hurry and only have a few minutes to read? Filter out everything over whatever word count you consider to be "too long." Absolutely can't stand this one character/trope/relationship? Exclude, exclude, exclude. And all they ask in return is that you tag your stuff properly. Incredible.
christmas eve what about christmas adam
happy christmas adam to all men’s rights activists
Please stop pestering us with things like this. This has nothing to do with men fighting for their rights. Eve is short for ‘evening’. Please don’t turn activism into a joke. Thanks.
Someone isn’t having a good christmas adam
Christmas Adam: December 23rd. Comes before Christmas Eve and is generally unsatisfying.
Happy Christmas Adam everyone

Awwww Cree's are boring, I know of môniyaw, which comes from the word Montreal, and wâpiskwiyâs, which means white meat/flesh.
Recently in "strangely encouraging conversations with dementia patients"...
90yo woman, at least 20 years unmoored in time, with a reputation for grumpiness: You're a man?!
Me, 28yo trans man with a very small beard, rare male nursing/healthcare staff member for this area: Yes.
90yo: Are you sure?
Me: Yes.
90yo: Are you looking to be a boy or a man or a woman?
Me: I'm a man.
90yo: You'd be very pretty as a girl.
Me: Thank you.
90yo: You're a girl with a beard?
Me: It's just my face.
90yo: You should shave it so people will see you're a girl.
Me: That's why I grow it.
90yo: You should grow it so people will see you're a man.
Me: This is as long as it gets right now.
90yo: Is it your hormones?
Me: Yes, they were a bit low.
90yo: Are you a girl growing into a man?
Me: Yes, I'm a man.
90yo: You're a very good man.
Another conversation which was both lighter and sadder...
80yo woman, friendly and polite, sitting next to an empty bed (neatly made): I'll just get him up for you. Alan, wake up, the nurse is here!
Me: No need, I'm just here for you today. He can rest.
80yo: All right, Alan is just snoozing.
Me: How long have you been married?
80yo: We're not married.
Me: Oh, who is Alan to you?
80yo: He's my husband, we've been married over 60 years.
Me: Does he snore?
80yo: Yes, terribly!
This person has a brain injury rather than dementia. I've seen him a few times, I know him a little though he will never know me.
[rain bucketing down outside]
Me: How are you, this fine day?
70yo: It's fucking horrible!
Me, gobsmacked because he has never before said a word to me or showed me he was aware of the not-immediate world: You're absolutely right.
I have a family member with dementia who often calls on the phone asking to be picked up and taken home, or to the store, or to school. The other day she called and asked if her husband was going to pick her up, and I said, "do you mean [Paul]? You aren't married to him anymore."
She said, "Really? I'm not married?"
"No, you haven't been married to him for thirty years."
"Oh, thank goodness. I did not enjoy that marriage at all."
My grandma had dementia far before I was born and until she passed at my tail end of high school. She had always lived in a facility from my time knowing her. She had 11 living bio children not counting her stepchildren and nieces/nephews she also took in. Uncountable amount of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Affectionately referred as a bitch and badass throughout life as a nurse by profession and overall caretaker to all. We had a family blog to keep tabs on who was visiting and when to what we did and what she said will all of her days documented. I enjoyed visiting her as a neurodivergent child because the facility was naturally designed to be less sensory overstimulating for the memory care patients. I would play dominos and chat with every older folk who wanted to. The nurses and aides enjoyed my presence as it often helped soothed the pricklier of the patients who were more prone to aggression in their confusion. Plus a lot of the patients were not as lucky as my grandmother who had so many to visit her.
I was often mistaken by these folks by other people in their life by name and timeline. I didn’t really mind this. They knew I was someone they felt safe around and they were always happy to see me as a child was rare to come by.
My grandma was never a big talker in her twilight days but I loved to tell her everything and anything. She never really got anyone else’s name right as far as her family but she always knew mine and would use memory care phone to call her adult children at random hours of the day and night to tell them about me by name in accurate detail.
Every so often she would grab my hand when she wanted to tell me important life advice. It would include anything from how to hide money from my husband in budgeting to how to best ditch my high school classes to get the roller rink without being caught.
One time while playing dominos with just us, she reached over and told me, “It’ll get hard. The days will get terribly long and the months will feel so short but there’s so much in those moments between and that love will carry.”
And you know? I think Grandma was right.
so many. stupid fucking people. smugly wrong. the term . "all art is political". does not mean. every artist puts political intent into their work. no. the guy drawing dicks on the subway did not intend any deep message by it. HOWEVER. all art. IS political. he chose to draw that dick. for a reason. society shaped what he finds funny. what he finds shocking. the fact he chose to draw a dick at all says something about his society. actually, the fact it is a dick and not a pussy is itself political. we are all. ALL. shaped by our environments. in an alternate universe a woman is drawing a vulva on the wall. and shes saying "TCH! this isnt political. stupid liberals". all art. has political CONTEXT. that is a more specific way to phrase it. because we live in a society. who has access to art? where is the art located? who is the artist? why did they draw that in that specific location. what led to them even having the sharpie they used to draw the dick to begin with. their society shaped their tools! their society shaped their choice of subject! their society shaped the location of their art! but these people are too stupid to understand this. so theyll continue pretending that they are not shaped by their political environment. SAD!
Here's a good example for you.
My grandma was a painter. Out of literally hundreds of painted pieces, she made fewer than a dozen that weren't flowers. (I feel like it should say a lot about who the "responsible one" is considered to be in my family. I have three of those pieces and the other six surviving ones are in the hands of five people.)
Why did she paint flowers?
Because she loved them, and could get subjects right from her own garden.
Why did she grow flowers in her garden?
Because the only reason she didn't starve as badly as some other people during the Great Depression is because her family had a subsistence farm, and during the Depression nobody had time or money for flowers. It was food crops all the way--whatever little you could get to grow.
The Great Depression was caused almost entirely by people buying on credit and stock market excesses.
My grandmother was a poor woman. Her family had no effect whatsoever on how the economy shook out, but they did suffer the consequences of the decisions of the wealthy.
In her later middle and old age, she finally had enough time and food to grow flowers.
This piece exists because the stock market crashed in 1929.
Tell me that isn't political, and mean it.

The Spaniards are always talking about how they don't have to apologize for colonization because they brought civilization here and it's their fucking fault Mexico city is simultaneously flooded every year and also doesn't have water because their ignorant asses didn't understand how the water infrastructure worked.
I fear some are misunderstanding me. It's not so much that the Spanish constructed a city on top of a lake, because there already was one. But Tenochtitlan was actually engineered in a way that made sense for its location, of which the Spanish understood nothing when building Mexico City on top of it. One of their greatest mistakes was destroying the albarradón de Nezahualcóyotl, which regulated the flow of water and also divided it in sweet and salty. Despite this being build to keep Tenochtitlan from flooding, no one ever rebuild it.
Don't keep that in the tags!!!
