I finished the last constellation tonight. All 40 of them are now done! Went through and double checked and every stitch is in place for them and all the beads are in place. Which just leaves the milky way part to do.
Started stitching the Milky Way in. Slowly making progress on it as I am hiding the travelling thread so the back will look nice.
Looks pretty cool and keeps the readability of the other stitches. Very happy with it. Just a thousand or so to do. As they are in a grid roughly every centimetre apart.
Update on the constellation quilt. I have gotten the last Milky Way stitch done now. Which means the quilting part of this project is done. My next step will be to baste the edges down, remove the pattern, trim the quilt square, and lastly attach the binding.
Progress on the constellation quilt has come along quite a lot now. Finished the binding on the quilt over the weekend. I prefer to machine stitch the binding to the front then hand stitch the back side. It gives such a nice finish to the quilt. Took the time to measure it also and it ended up being 72" by 72" (183cm by 183cm).
With that done I could finally start removing the pattern. Which is taking both less time and more time that I thought it would. As it rips really easily so that goes fast, but the tiny corners and removing it under the beads is slow. You can now see the difference in the glow effect with it against the dark front of the quilt instead of the pattern.
Behold the stars of the constellations of the northern sky! I love how this quilt has turned out. It was a lot of fun to work on and the effect is so cool in person. Overall I would estimate it took about 90-100 hours to complete. Give or take 10 hours if you want to count the time I spent custom dying the fabric.
I made sure to get a nice photo of it in daylight. For once I also remembered to get a quilt label on it. The back really shows the difference in readability of the quilting on the ice dyed fabric compared to the solid front. Thank you everyone that has followed this. I am glad you all found joy in it.
Those that are interested, here is the pattern I used by Haptic Lab. I made the large northern hemisphere version, and plan to make the matching southern hemisphere one next year. I also got your back for the less crafty people. Haptic Lab sells finished quilts in this pattern, both as a large quilt and a small one.
anyway. onto better things

I have never, and will never, use "ofc" to mean "of fucking course". It literally stands for OF Course...
so very fun fact about aspen trees! Each of these photos only contain one organism, since aspen trees in fact grow by cloning themselves from a shared root network. The biggest system is called Pando, contains 40,000 individuals, and is estimated to be 80,000 years old.

One like nitpick thing that drives me crazy is when people call Blue Whales the largest whales or the largest living mammals or some shit like that
Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today
unexpected benefit of having to use a vpn is sometimes i get ads that are entirely in french, which makes it like 200% easier to ignore them. cant advertise to me if i dont understand a word of it. life hacks.
I love how NASA loves PHM...
Note as someone who has visited and driven in most of the 48 lower contiguous states of the 50 small countries in a trenchcoat that make up the USA;
The drivers of all states suck, of course, this is a given. HOWEVER. There are some very special places that stand out among these. In order of how in fear for my life I was.
3. Houston. Drivers in Texas in general treat speed limits as a lower limit for how fast you should be going and the drivers in Houston show no regard for life or limb.
2. Atlanta. The drivers of Atlanta do not fear death for themselves and would rather you both die than let you merge.
Fucking. New Jersey. If I never drive I-95 or the Turnpike again I will die happy. You've never known fear until you see someone neglect to use turn signals and Jersey Slide through 4 lanes of near bumper to bumper 80 MPH traffic and cut in front of you to make their exit as you slam the brakes on and miss rear ending them by about half an inch.
On the flip side, the BEST driving I've ever seen? Suprisingly, New Orleans. Now, I went NOT during Mardi Gras, but I found the drivers there to be courtious and cautious with a very few exceptions. 10/10.

Project Iron Backrooms 🥹
I think eva stratt has detailed files on all petrova taskforce personnel that contain more information about their subjects than the subjects even know about themselves. several people in her employ have mild food allergies that she noted and had cut out of their diets via requests to the catering staff but that the people themselves have never consciously noticed, ilyukhina just thought she stopped getting regular stomach aches when she arrived on the vat because she's god's specialest engineer and not because all the dairy in her diet got swapped out for alternatives. grace does some shopping on the mainland at one point and doesn't realize he bought a different scent of moisturizer than usual so stratt just goes into his room and switches it with a hypoallergenic formula in an identical bottle. this is because she has never been normal about anything in her life.
shoutout to adrian for the great view
FAQ to date and answers I have managed to get out of the generator's creator (who is extremely offline, bemused by the attention, and deeply flattered if slightly concerned):
This is a freebie and is being written as a side project by a very busy physicist and apparently distributed as a side project by a very busy rocket scientist, this blog is gonna be sparse on the updates.
Yes it's coded in Matlab yes we know you hate Matlab.
At some point the creator (I'm gonna have to ask them what pseudonym they want because I can't keep calling them 'my beta' but again we didn't think this would happen) is intending to code this up as a .exe that users can run directly if they trust us or compile themselves and then run if they don't. This person is way more computer than I am and I'm more computer than much of Tumblr so yes this is a high bar to entry.
Yes the intention is to publish the code when it's working properly, and I'm trying to convince them to set up a github page. It's going. Badly.
At the moment it's generating random star systems beautifully, though the smaller moons keep phasing in and out and you have to check the readme to find out what the numbers mean. Generating planets to spec is stickier just at present and will be a longer time coming.
Their intention is to send me a working copy of the random generator to post sometime on Friday, so realistically you won't see that before the weekend because I have a life too and y'all are killing my notes.
Yes EVENTUALLY you should be able to input any of the parameters the generator allows for and it will output a system that meets your requirements, but I anticipate spending a LOT of time deliberately breaking it before that's up and running.
To the person who offered debugging help, I love and appreciate you but this person learned to code fortran and assembly before anything else and makes new code languages for fun so I do not think you will be able to read their code (no shade, I can't either).
Yes it can do binary systems, I have the printout for one, but again it is currently sitting in a state of 'this is an unformatted Matlab output' and requires reference to the index/readme/glossary to puzzle out what the numbers mean.
Have you considered checking with the devs who work on the World Orogen generator?
(Which for those who dont know is a planet generator that literally generates a planet with tectonic activity and a generalized idea on mountain ranges and even climates. So i can see potential in expanding further)
@frowny-clowny you're looking for this.
To answer - no, this is the first I'd heard of this thing, I'll mention it to the physicist but I suspect actually making the two compatible will be out of scope because this was intended as a small one-off and absolutely not something that would get or need ongoing support.
We uh. Were expecting maybe 20 people to be maybe mildly interested in seeing it in a few months.
On the autism site? How many orders of magnitude were you off by?
Three. Oops.
Video game where you get to play as a knight of the Round Table and go on quests and gain renown and level up your skills and befriend and romance other characters but it always ends in everyone being slaughtered at Camlann. You can decide to assist Mordred in usurping his father or support the king you have served for so long but everyone will die anyway. This kingdom will inevitably crumble, you can’t do anything about it. You can put hundreds of hours into it and there is nothing you can do about that. But you CAN flirt with sexy single father Gawain!

Fennel’s Wuthering Heights carries on that old imperial habit of touching a wonderful thing it does not understand and salivating with animal larceny impulse. This is the part that feels rancid to me: not merely that the adaptation fundamentally, egregiously misunderstands the novel, but that it misunderstands it in the precise shape of empire.
Take the outsider. Whiten the outsider. Take the violence. Aestheticize the violence. Corsets. Flower crowns. Latex. Softcore pornography in ribbons. Plunging necklines. Take the mud the dirt the miremuck of disgraced colonial history. Make it editorial. Make it swing flaccidly towards camp, yes mama boots the house down. Take the class rage. Sell it as background atmosphere, thoughtful addendum, glorious footnote of gold. Take the gaping racial wound. Disappear it. Call its absence “modern.” Then stand there, powdered and well-funded, asking why everyone is being so dramatic about the missing body.
