Does no one find it odd that Duchess Swan transforms into a black swan? Traditionally, isn’t it Odile, the black swan, the one who goes to the palace and pretends to be Odette, the white swan, as the main female protagonist of Swan Lake?

Doesn’t Odile pretend to be Odette and try to win Sigfried’s affections? Isn’t Duchess basically trying to ruin every other princess’s life at EAH and also has a crush on Daring?

Doesn’t Von Rothbart basically force Siegfried to fulfill his engagement to Odile (an engagement that he was tricked into proposing in front of a public; in the end, Siegfried commits suicide with Odette in order to be with his true love)? Isn’t Duchess blackmailing Ashlynn and Hunter so that they don’t follow their hearts and not love each other (but they’ve gone and committed social suicide by coming out to everyone)?

So…one must ask: is Duchess really the daughter of Odette, or is she Odile’s daughter? After all, last I checked, Odile did not die in Swan Lake nor did she have a happy ending and she did not get the prince. Duchess seems pretty intent on getting a prince and a happy ending.
