If you read the Selection series backwards

it’d be about King Maxon and Queen America, who create the Caste system, which angers a group of people, so there are now frequent rebel attacks. The King and Queen have now separated, and the King’s creation of the Caste was so unpopular that he has been downgraded to prince. The former Queen has to compete in a Selection to win the Prince’s heart back, but more girls show up at the palace to compete as time goes on, until finally there’s 35 total. Falling out of love with Prince Maxon, as he has become very rigid and boring, she moves to the province of Carolina into her childhood home and becomes a performer for parties. She has a secret relationship with a guy in the Caste below her. In the end, she and Aspen never marry, keeping their love a secret forever.
