Hi! I'm Silv, I'm a hobbyist artist who is fixated on GW2 at the moment. I must draw sylvari to keep myself sane because a degree in a healthcare field is hard, and I wish I was also a really cool plant. My activity is all over the place due to the above. :>
This is my main blog, everything goes here. For a little more organisation:

Alright I'm gonna throw a ramble about Fedsy and magic usage here because I wanna get my thoughts out and certain bits have been neglected by me in terms of how it's affected by his 'vampirism'. I do this every so often, so it is time once again for Lore:
So Fedsy's whole vampirism thing is just him not processing magic properly, blood is an easy way to get it pre-filtered, pretty much guaranteed to have less nasties as opposed to chowing down on mysterious artefacts (though, he likes chilling out in ley line hubs. the concentration of 'pure' magic there is simply SO HIGH that I imagine he can draw a lil somethin from that and it calms him down, lol). That has been established for ages, as has the fact that this is due to a dodgy connection with the dream due to a run-in with the nightmare court. (I hc that some sylvari kind of 'draw' magic from their connection to the dream if otherwise lacking). These issues improve near insantly when he's under Mordremoth's influence due to the connection with and power of the dragon, buuut unfortunately that's also why he's so susceptible in the first place. It's only getting his hands on Glint's egg that breaks this influence - something that is also of ridiculously concentrated magical power.
yes he was taking the egg straight to mordremoth
it is up for debate if Aurene choosing Fedsy as her champion was an act of desperation, as I am fairly certain he would have succeeded.
yes this is confusing as hell for him, with being a ridiculously fast change from "yay vinetooth faolain my fellow mordrem who is big and large and can protect me whilst i am smaller and faster and ten times more annoying" to "yay vinetooth faolain m- oh shit. oh SHIT. FUCK"
Anyway. He's a mesmer. How is this thing casting spells with such a limited intake of magic. This is the bit I neglected. SO! I almost made him as a thief, and consider this to be his starting class. This is fine, because less magic involved (at least for daredevil style combat). So now I'm going backwards in time and rambling about sapling Fedsy I guess.
He ends up at the priory with Larry after his run in with the court, partially because "this sapling is unhinged, but capable, can we PLEASE redirect his curiosity somewhere productive. He has taken out a chunk of the court by contaminating their water supply, and whilst this is useful, it is A Bit Scary. We also think he might have killed someone. Jail would be a waste and he's also going nuts in there."
So when he's got the time, Larry is trying to teach him a few basic bits of magic. He's terrible at it. Nobody really gets why he's terrible. Whatever. Later he ends up in the whispers, tries to learn mesmerism to try gain a sense of control over something given how he feels his life is spiralling. And also to avoid the priory a little bit because he keeps chewing on people and may have sampled an artefact or two, which they Did Not Appreciate.
He fits in well with the whispers, happily provides them with some lovely hallucinogenic poisons and finally has some success with certain aspects of mesmerism. Notably aspects involving more manipulation of the mind (I hc that this takes far less 'magical energy' than conjuring illusions, as it's twisting something which already exists in a way). So, great. He's using that in combat now, alongside hallucinogens to bump up the effectiveness of said magic to account for his shortcomings there. If he's gonna try conjure something, he absolutely can, but it will take him out and he might need to kill someone about it later :/
Anyway this whole magic issue only really starts to fix itself gradually through his connection with Aurene. She enabled him to be a scary scary mesmer. He does not necessarily need to chew on people anymore. But whilst you do not need to eat delicious cakes or season your food, it improves your wellbeing if you do.
It also stands to reason that in my other AU where he isn't aurene's champion, and is more of a creature, he'd most likely still be considered a thief who dabbles in mesmerism.
if you dont decouple your drive to create from your desire for attention you will go insane. simple as. you will never feel satisfied b/c you will always want more and you will feel perpetually bitter that you did not get what you are “owed”
It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough
But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.
It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.
And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.
the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.
hello hi I have to YELL that is a NEW ORR MAP. Those are the words I am hearing with my ears. I will let you twist the knife. ill twist it myself give me some more of THAT

I love Orr and itll be so fun to explore how the lore we have ties into the world. It was really smart of them to make a prequel so they can continue to make content for gw2 without disrupting the new addition. Plus since Orr sinks, they really do have a playground to do whatever they like and have it all be erased when it disappears, meaning no lore impact on previously made content.
I FORGOT TO YELL ON HERE!! very VERY excited to finally be able to follow an MMO right from the start!! I've always joined them super late and honestly never even thought that one would release that I'd like to play nowadays!
I will miss my plants a little but that is a non issue. Nobody can do it like my boy fedsy anyway. Plus, you won't escape him THAT easily gw2 has so much content I got like 10 years left on the microwave timer. Now i got TWO cakes....
And I'm so pleased it looks like theyve kept a more artsy style for it. AND maybe I'll finally focus on those damn rats now. Asura are 110% my vibe (horrible) (kinda cunty abt it) (unethical and stupid science) but I neglect them .
AND! The lore potential.... the little origin story bits that can be included.... and the potential for little silly dialogue bits. I think i already saw someone say this in relation to orr sinking but I also just think it'll be very fun to hear balthazar worship again given gw2s events . I've also skimmed a LOT of lore, especially human so I'm excited to get more context :>

So, it's been a while since I last played Guild Wars 2, and I started feeling the itch to start playing again and jumping back into Nameless Higanbana's story, so I thought I'd start by doing some fanart! I was going to draw Nameless in the forests of Caledon, but seeing as the last time I played, she was journeying into the heart of Orr, I thought I'd draw her there instead!
As a bit of a Recap, Nameless Higanbana, Revenant of the Sylvari Grove, set out in her journey across Tyria, aiding the less fortunate folks of the realm and piecing together her purpose. Joining the Order of Whispers under Tybalt Leftpaw, she rooted out the dark secrets plaguing the human city of Divinity's reach, upending the political machinations of the Beetlestone Patriarch. She and Tybalt grew close, becoming akin to siblings. However, shortly after achieving the rank of Lightbringer, she was involved in the invasion of Claw Island, losing Tybalt to the undead minions of the dragon, Zhaitan.
Teaming up with other members of the Order, as well as the Sylvari firstborn Trahearne, Nameless was instrumental in bringing together the disparate peoples across the three orders of Tyria, leading to the formation of The Pact. Together, the joint Orders of Tyria banded together and forged deep into the heart of Orr, seat of power of the undead, hoping to free the land of the threat of the dragon Zhaitan...

good art is when something looks like real life, the more real it looks the more better the art. abstracted figures give my trad children nightmares, one time they were exposed to cubism and couldn't go outside for a week
