After the heroes defeated it, the hat blew away again and landed on the Guard Captain. She branded the heroes as criminals, creating a ruckus of non-violent combats to solve their way through as the Captain ran off. When they caught up and tackled her - it blew away again.

The players followed it to the local anti-magical wizard’s asylum, where the hat itself tried to free whoever was the most powerful caster it could find while using the prison’s defences against the heroes. When they at last caught up and axed the hat, the Lich’s soul took on the form of a Mythic Fire Elemental.

The corrupt, necromantic substance known as Black Blood has terrible effects on living tissue, draining the heat from them at a rapid pace. Drinking it does similarly awful things, but bolsters one’s Necromantic prowess for several minutes, and Black Blood has no effect on–among other things–Undead.

Those dates you go on with your partner? They’re in public. Unmasked. Your server smiles at you. Everyone feels safe.

 In Ye Olde Medieval Fantasy Dayes, everybody’s layer against skin (shirt tunic or shift) is gonna be linen. it’s almost never wool except stockings or hose (like pant legs). Say “undyed cloth” if you wanna make them sound simple and peasanty. Comment on how you can tell it wasn’t made for them (the fit is off) and has had probably eight owners before. 

Outer clothing is gonna be either wool, or a blend called Linsey-woolsey, and again you could say Undyed, but dyes are not only common they are CHEAP and relatively easy. (innerwear is often left undyed or bleached to white because it gets washed to heck- like beaten by a wooden stick on a stone by the river- and dye would just fade out a lot so why bother. Ths is also why innerwear has ties, rarely buttons, unless you are so rich you have people doing your washing delicately because they’re hired to do only that. Buttons would get broken in the washing)

Example medieval dye colors. Lots of yellows and orangey-browns. Woad gave a range of blues that are basically what we think of as “denim colors.” There were purples - royal purple was a specific color from a specific source - but if you mix wine-dye and woad-dye, you get purpleish dye. (Getting the color to stay that way may be more difficult. Everything worn by peasants fades; they couldn’t afford the really good fixatives.)

Peasant clothes were often more colorful than the nobility. Nobles could afford bright, clear colors that peasants couldn’t - but one mark of wealth was being able to buy all 4-8 yards of fabric for an outfit at the same time. So nobles would have a full outfit, including hat, stockings, even shoes, of one type of fabric (with ornamentation of a contrasting type, and as many buttons or bits of silver as they could get away with wearing), while peasants would often have a shirt, bodice or jerkin, skirt or pants, stockings, and hat of all different colors.

Excalibur.

In the legends, Excalibur comes out of a lake (although some versions have Excalibur as the sword in the stone, those are later…the sword Arthur pulls from the stone breaks and he goes to get a better one).

Here’s the thing.

In northern Europe in the Iron Age all the way through to the early Medieval period, most iron came from bog iron. It was hard to smelt, because it was a rather low grade ore, but you didn’t have to mine it and it was a renewable resource (in about twenty years you could just come back and get more, because it formed constantly).

Meaning that the iron used to make a sword came…out of water.

In most fairy stories, fairies don’t like iron. So the vision of the Lady as some kind of fairy or elf? Not likely.

The idea of her as a druid? Maybe.

But what’s far more likely is this: The Lady of the Lake was a smith.

But….but…

The Celtic deity in charge of smiths and ironworking was Bridget, a goddess. The mystical associations with the Lady would fit with her being a priestess of Bridget…and thus, a smith.

IOW, Arthurian people, maybe we should not be visualizing the Lady of the Lake  as a slender, graceful woman in a gown…
