I have this idea his paternal grandparents used to make sure him and his sisters had protection amulets in their home, but as Bucky was more scientific than spiritual in his youth he did not think too much of it.

After HYDRA, during his recovery in Wakanda, Bucky started to become more interested in spiritualism and protective symbolism, both Wakandan and of his own background, in which he become more curious about amulets like nazar.

Sam while traveling for Cap work bought an amulet necklace and chain to wear as a gift.
