I love doing genealogical research and reading historical records for the hell of it and I like collecting names but sometimes I come across one that throws me for a loop. Like Garrard. Why the fuck would you name your baby Garrard? Apparently it is the same name as Gerard but a variant (worse) spelling that is more commonly used as a surname but I can’t find anyone connected to that family with the surname Garrard. They just named their kid that and we’ll never get to hear the thought process behind it. That is an 19th century Tragedeigh.

Imagining the dad coming to register the birth and writing his son’s name down and the clerk being like “Are you sure? 🙁”

Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.

My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.

I know I already made a post to this effect but it's so baffling to me when someone defends the fact that headphone jacks are slowly but surely getting phased out by smartphone manufacturers with some variations of "wireless headphones are more convenient anyway" bc like. If we're talking about convenience what I like about wired headphones is that they conveniently have a single plug that makes the same damn pair of headphones universally compatible with every single audio-output-capable device I own, from my phone and my computer to my fucking gameboy and my casette player, it doesn't get any more convenient than that.

Have you heard about Bluetooth it's legal now

yeah it's real fucking convenient to use a bluetooth headphone and have it die on me hour 8 of hiking up a mountain during my job. You know what's 1 less device I have to charge and has never died on me during a hike due to lack of charge? A headphone I just plug directly into my device.
