Natsu was born as Taiyou -- he was orphaned at a young age and sort of just. Wandered the streets and scrounged up scraps for a while until he stumbled upon a fellow kitsune his age, named Tsuki.

They became a lil duo!! Even though they're super close, they've never spoken a word to each other because their telepathic abilities made things so much more convenient. By the time they were 12 years old, they were fluent in Japanese although they weren't yet literate. A human priestess discovered them and directed them towards the territories of the seasonal clans, where they studied and trained under the tutelage of the Spring Clan and Summer Clan.

Taiyou excelled in all academic areas and grew to love literature especially. He built a school that housed orphaned children and taught them how to read and write. In his free time, he would write all sorts of stories and poetry :3

Eventually, it was Taiyou who was chosen as the next leader of the Summer Clan. Tsuki was proud of him!! They decided to change their names and go their separate ways to cement their commitment to their new responsibilities, since their original names were so closely linked together. Taiyou became "Natsu" and Tsuki became "Yoru."
