In regards to your black tom design, and Iβm sorry if this has been asked before, but can I ask why you do portray him as black? I quite like it but Iβm also curious to hear your thoughts! Iβd also like to ask the same regarding Paul and Patryckβs skintones
it came from me being inspired by many other artists :) in previous fandoms i used to be in, there wasn't always as much freedom when it came to creating headcanons having to do with designing/creating lore for characters. plus, 90% of the characters i drew were white and skinny.
with eddsworld, all of the characters are a pretty much a slate that you're free to add onto. you get the general idea of a character's traits/appearance, yet every single artists' interpretation is different in some way. i like to think that it's a sandbox you can mess around in. in the hypothetical case that the characters were still closely tied to their irl counterparts and they had openly stated that they were uncomfortable with these portrayals, then obviously i wouldn't be doing this. however, they have long been separated and it has been encouraged to do whatever you want with the characters, so why not have fun with it?
i could've kept every character's design close to canon if i had wanted to, but i wanted to take this given freedom as an opportunity to try making different designs. it has helped me improved my art a LOT too. same goes for writing--since there's not much established lore in eddsworld, it was the perfect opportunity to try to learn how to explore different storylines, relationships, dynamics, etc.
tldr: i don't have a specific reason for why i decide to make a character a certain race, i just do it just because Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
