this is a vegetarian potato curry recipe that's about 75% spices; once you get the potatoes in there you can really do whatever you want with it

this is literally just pasta, broccoli, and cheese babey and you can live off that shit for DAYS it makes such a big portion

bro this spinach/pesto/3 cheese flatbread is so fucking tasty bro

also you can make the flatbread yourself it's super quick!!

oh hey I'm eating this white chickpea chili right now, much like the curry it's mostly spices and you can do p much do whatever you want with it

don't let the name fool you these potatoes are delicious any time. not just breakfast.

this is slightly more than five ingredient when you add them together but if you have time and really wanna fuckin treat yourself I recommend these chicken strips + this cornbread + either these potatoes or these buttered veggies on the side.

another one to check out is watan palestine - it's a palestinian-owned art studio dedicated to palestinian culture. they own offices in chicago as well as amman in jordan and they have the most gorgeous art, jewelry, home decor, clothing, accessories etc. i think almost everything is handmade, and they have detailed product descriptions for everything

Could you recommend places in which I can buy things to make better binder?

@star-anise here! You’ve got some choices ahead of you.

I tried limiting the materials for my design to things you could buy at any store that has a “sewing” section, like a Walmart, grocery stores, or dollar stores. There are fancier things you can get if you go to a specialized sewing places (Walmart with a sewing section, JoAnn’s, Fabricland, etc). and if you want the niche option of spring steel boning, you’ll have to go to the real specialists. For this post I’ll link to independent fabric stores online, of which there are A TON.

I personally am a fan of local fabric stores (especially independent stores) so you can talk to the staff and ask questions, but I have the advantage of being a cis woman and 😔 fabric stores can be very hit-or-miss about being sensitive to the needs of anyone who isn’t a cis woman. So your mileage may vary.

Base garment - I’ve only used Fruit of the Loom so far; I like them because they’re fairly simple and made of breathable cotton. Here’s their selection of styles - I’ve used the strappy and tank versions, which have the trade-off where the tank is visible under a wider variety of shirts but well-suported and less likely to move, and the strappy one is easier to hide but a little less supported. I haven’t yet tried, but I want to, the front-closure model, since I think it would be way easier to put on. You can buy directly from them, or use their “where to buy” page.

Elastic - widely available, but for an example, from Fabrications or The Workroom; I’ve seen it in local dollar stores and fabric shops.

Boning - Heavy Duty Cable Tie option - From Home Depot; I’ve also seen it in dollar stores and sometimes electronics shops; needs 3/4″ twill tape (and a utility knife or heavy duty scissors to cut)

[…] The 13th-century Italian Jewish translator’s literary methods are as fascinating as are the Arthurian stories in Hebrew dress. The scribe not only translates from Italian, [..] he also changed and Judaized the story. The scribe’s manner of Judaization is evident at the outset of the romance; the apology itself is filled with terms from a familiar Jewish world. Instrumental to the Judaization of the Arthurian romance are the scribe’s choice of plot (the seduction of Igerne by the king, with its parallels to the David-Bath-Sheba story), additions and omissions, use of language, and treatment of certain passages to stress Jewish ideas. For instance, the feast at which Uther meets Igerne is described in the Old French sources as a Christmas feast. In the Hebrew version, the statement “Then the king made a great feast for all the people and all the princes” (based on Esth. 2:18) conveys the aura of a Purim feast. Another example of such transference of concepts occurs when the translator takes the talmudic word tamḥui (“a charity bowl from which food was distributed to the needy”), with its uniquely Jewish associations, to describe the grail, an overtly Christian symbol. The constant use of well-known biblical phrases reminds the reader of religious literature and produces the effect of biblical scenes in the midst of the Arthurian narrative. In this fashion, then, the text and the language interact in polyphonic fashion.”

It’s a wonderful Arthurian text and one of the most delightful versions of the last days of Camelot that I’ve read. I can’t recommend it enough for a quick and fun read.

So apparently last year the National Park Service in the US dropped an over 1200 page study of LGBTQ American History as part of their Who We Are program which includes studies on African-American history, Latino history, and Indigenous history.

Like. This is awesome. But also it feels very surreal that maybe one of the most comprehensive examinations of LGBTQ history in America (it covers sports! art! race! historical sites! health! cities!) was just casually done by the parks service.

Unearthing Ireland’s deepest fairy secrets and darkest myths

“A worldwide crowdsourcing movement is currently unearthing Ireland’s deepest fairy secrets and darkest myths. A voluntary collective online is working its way through transcribing 700,000 pages of folklore that were collected throughout Ireland between 1937 and 1939. This mass of previously inaccessible material was gathered by more than 100,000 children who were sent to seek out the oldest person in their community just before second World War to root out the darkest, oddest and weirdest traditional beliefs, secrets and customs, which were then logged into 1,128 volumes, titled the Schools’ Manuscripts Collection.

Half a million pages have been digitised by the National Folklore Collection, of which more than 100,000 pages have now been transcribed by volunteers, revealing the fairy situation in every townland, the types of leprechaun and butter churn common to each area, the names of people who tried to steal gold and what happened to them, or who had relationships with mermaids. There is material on local cures, holy wells, strange animals, travelling folk and spirits.”
