bravely . i think aveline and isabela should primarily be fighting over who gets to do violence and against whom. and what actually counts as violence . instead of what being good at woman is like
like. aveline becomes captain of the guard after having previously been a soldier married to a templar. her Life essentially is defined by sanctioned, culturally noble and respected violence against those perceived as Other, Deserving by the state she serves. child bride to pirate pipeline isabela (who is on the run because she took on her powerful boss to free slaves he would have profited from the sale of) has been the Other against whom it is Acceptable To Commit Violence (but who is not legally or morally permitted to retaliate) her whole life, and i think this has made her incredibly protective of her right to engage in violence of her own. to me this has always kind of been the heart of their conflictâ ideas about who is respectable, who is Allowed, who gets to define what that even means. especially with the context that As captain of the guard, aveline quite actively reinforces her institutionâs right to enact violence & the Taboo against the disenfranchised returning it; her guardsman sexually assaults an elven girl, and she not only protects him, but literally (accidentally.) starts a war over her right to prosecute the girlâs brothers for killing him in retaliation when She failed to deliver appropriate justice. ISABELA WAS SOLD AS A CHILD BRIDE. itâs such a gimme. thatâs like the main thing that differentiates them and the main difference in their interests. literally how is this not the main thing theyâre clashing about?

Seeing how the Knight-Commanders in WOTR can vary so wildly, I imagine some NPCs really do feel this as a genuine fear.

"the m/m is an escape from misogyny" discourse has mostly revealed to me that the average tumblr user, regardless of where they stand on this particular issue, and I have a very different relationship to approaching sexism in fictional romance. like obviously I do think there's a good reason not to uncritically perpetuate egregiously misogynistic tropes and I don't blame women for not wanting to see female characters end up in romantic relationships with men who they the viewer consider misogynists (that being said, it is crucial to understand what is unforgivable misogyny to one woman is often normalized and therefore understandable behaviors to another), but in my experience, a lot of attempts to create Certified Non-Misogynist Characters or Certified Non-Misogynist Worlds just ends up accidentally revealing the creator's own unconscious sexist biases so it's just better to, like, let the casual sexism that permeates relationships between men and women be an intentional part of the text and then examine it from there. if the audience is uncomfortable with that then they should reflect on it and come to their own conclusions as to how they feel about those sorts of behaviors, but by acknowledging that reality, the creator will have told a truer and more interesting story.
or to put it more plainly, I have yet to meet a person who is not sexist in some way or another, and so, I do not really expect that from fiction. furthermore, I do not think you can "escape" misogyny without first confronting its existence and any attempt to do so is ultimately futile.
the "my favorite character did nothing wrong" mindset is completely unappealing to me because i love thinking about all the things my favorite characters did wrong
thank god for female characters who have something wrong with them amen
his life fucking sucks
Ship Tournament, Round 2 â Match 5 / 15
Astarion/Wyll
"Much has been said about how Wyll's romance better fits what Astarion seems to truly want in a relationship, that Wyll is happy with a more chaste relationship, etc etc. But what's often missed is that Astarion is actually a fantastic match for Wyll! Wyll is self-sacrificing to an unhealthy degree, and often minimizes the abuse and trauma he's been through. Astarion, meanwhile, is much more open-eyed to what he's experienced. He's happy to choose himself when needed and pushes those he cares about to do the same. And if you play as Astarion, you're given unique dialogue options to compare Mizora and Cazador and urge Wyll away from being passive in response of how she abuses him. Astarion needs someone to teach him how to empathize with others, and Wyll needs someone to teach him to fight for himself as much as he does for others. They complete each other!"
vs. Ansur/Emperor
"THE doomed exes ship. ansur loved balduran enough to search for him, shelter him, try to save him, and then couldnât accept what heâd become. the emperor loved him enough that killing him is still framed as this huge buried wound centuries later, even through all the mind flayer emotional repression and manipulation. itâs horrible because neither of them is uncomplicatedly âwrongâ in the emotional sense? ansur sees the person he loves transformed into something he believes is a monster. the emperor sees the person he trusts most deciding that mercy means killing him. they loved each other and it still ended under the city with a dragonâs corpse and a sword in the dark. what the fuck man."
"sometimes romance is a dragon looking at the illithid wearing your loverâs memories and going âi canât live with thisâ and the illithid going âi am alive, why is that not enoughâ"
"Is the Emperor still Balduran? Is Ansur loving him, mourning him, or rejecting him? Is the Emperorâs anger betrayal trauma or the cold self-preservation of a mind flayer? Itâs messy and awful and romantic in the gothic âthis ends with both of us ruinedâ way. Exactly what I want from a dragon and his fucked up squid ex."
Which ship do you prefer?

To overcome one's nature
The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.

got this party banter the other day which made me realise how much of Wyll and Gale's dynamic is defined by them being in their 20s and 30s respectively
#i love how much of wyll's dynamics with the other party members are him trying to gently prise them out of their shells#and not a single one of them has any idea what to do with that (tags by wiltingdecay)

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Ask Game - Mechanics and Story
Knight-Commanders, what is the story told by those numbers on your character sheet? Here is an ask game list with some questions themed around that:
What led the future Knight-Commander to take their base class?
What led to the Knight-Commander picking their archetype, or staying the standard class?
If they chose to multiclass, what does it reflect about them? If they did not, why? Story or player reasons.
What prestige classes did they go for, and why? If not, would one fit them or did they qualify for one?
Which class features would particularly stand out with them - Rage, Channel Positive/Negative Energy, Animal Companions, etc.?
What about their skills and feats - what story is told by their skill selection, or was it pure gameplay?
Is there an alternative class or archetype that is in-game that may fit them better, and if so why did they not take that path?
Is a respec part of their story, and if so why? If not, if they had to respec into something else what would it be?
How does their Background choice reflect their character, and how does it play into their build?
How does their ancestry (race) play into their class and mythic path - do they overlap, or what dynamic is created from that combination?
How does their mythic path synergize with their build?
How does their mythic path synergize with their personality - does it augment it, or is it in contrast? Something in-between?
Which mythic abilities/spells would be iconic to them, and was it their preference or did they prefer something less iconic?
What about another mythic path that they did not take? Is there one that would fit them, build or personality wise, and what might that have looked like?
In your story, does the Knight-Commander consciously choose their mythic path at Drezen, or was it thrust upon them by their actions or some other outside force?
How well do they play mechanically with their romance, if any? If not, which party member do they synchronize best with?
Do they overlap with a party member in role or narrative presence, and if so how do they contrast from said party member?
Did any of their companions multiclass or take a PRC they do not start with, and if so what is the story behind this?
What is their favored weapon(s) or spell(s), and why?
Is there an item in-game that you felt became iconic to the Knight-Commander?
If the Knight-Commander could get a unique item, what would it be and what would it do?
What is the Commanderâs opinion of their mythic patrons/advisors - the Hand of the Inheritor, Aivu or the Desnan Adepts, Zacharias, the Aeon in the mirror, Hal, Yozz and Noticula, etc.?
What units did they pick in the Military Council (Infantry, Archers, Cavalry, Spellcasters, Grand Tier), and why?
When the option to pick was available, which mythic units did they unlock and why?
