When Harry first meets Lisa, she is a frightened nurse who has confined herself to a room to hide from the monsters & acts as a source of information. Lisa is relieved to discover another 'normal' human, & so acts rather openly & clingy for someone in a survival situation. Even scared out of her wits, she manages a few smiles & freely gives up whatever knowledge Harry needs--even when she doesn't know the reasons behind his questions or doesn't necessarily think it will be useful. Perhaps to put herself at ease, Lisa even allows herself to ramble a bit at times, though she stops when taking notice & assures Harry that she will shut up. The interactions with Lisa become progressively stranger, until she's hit with the self-realization that she's dead & has been this entire time. At realizing this, Lisa's fear & anxiety skyrockets, & she desperately seeks comfort from Harry. After being denied this & shoved away, blood appears & drenches her skin & clothes as she begins her transformation into one of the monstrous nurses that roam the otherworld, giving Harry no other choice but to abandon the sobbing & terrified nurse to her doom. Through certain in-game documents & a video, a different view of the nurse is provided. Lisa was a young woman who wanted to escape the mundane town of Silent Hill, to become something bigger than what was expected of her. She wanted to be an actress, but her mother was a nurse, as was her grandmother, & it was what was expected of her as well. As a girl who was born & raised in Silent Hill, she felt that without any support, she couldn’t branch out on her own—she wasn’t strong enough. Lisa had also been heavily influenced by her experiences with Dr. Kaufman & the drug, PTV. Lisa had been in a sexual relationship with Kaufman for at least some extended period of time, & is also heavily addicted to the drug PTV, which he supplied her with. While in normal situations the sexual situation with Kaufman would be considered consensual, Lisa was only sixteen at the time. There is dubious consent; Lisa is a teenager who is sleeping with her much older boss—who can control her success at the hospital, & also controls her access to a highly addictive drug. From her addiction onward, it is clear that Lisa makes very few of her own choices—her early indoctrination to a co-dependent relationship makes her an easy puppet for Kaufman & the Cult's plans. When Alessa survives the burning, it is clear that someone needs to take care of her third degree burns—Kaufman blackmails Lisa into taking the job by threatening to withhold the PTV from her, & forces her to keep everything secret. For seven years, she never attempts to escape her fate—she seems more than willing to do as she is told, to get the drug she so desperately needs to function. Lisa spends seven years taking care of wounds that are constantly bleeding & oozing pus; she is Alessa’s sole companion in Hell. Lisa eventually starts to struggle with her own sanity, questioning how a child could stay alive after such trauma. But she does the job diligently, despite her growing resentment towards the situation. Lisa knows that Alessa sees her as a mother figure, going so far as to allow Lisa to live on after her death. Every other nurse within Silent Hill's otherworld is a disgusting, scary creature—but Lisa herself is allowed to stay pure, just as she was in Alessa's eyes when under her care. Despite her selfish acts, her resentment & bitterness, Lisa is at her core a good person. She doesn’t allow her stress & eventual resentment towards Alessa to ever show. Lisa becomes the last touch of humanity that Alessa had on a daily basis, & helped keep her alive. The Lisa Harry meets is not Lisa herself, but the ‘memory’ of Lisa—the Lisa that Alessa allowed to live on, even after she was killed by Kaufman. There is only one instance where Lisa attempts to escape on her own; eventually taking care of Alessa is too much for her, & not even her need for the drug is enough to keep her there. Lisa attempts an escape, born of desperation—& Kaufman kills her for it. But even in death, even after the realization that she is nothing more than a puppet nurse—she still attempts to help others.
A young nurse intern originally from a distant new england town. Despite her comfortable occupation with SWORD, she longs for something more, dreams of performing arts occupying her mind on slower shifts. In spite of those feeling, however, Lisa performs her job diligently & earnestly, taking care of any patient without any hesitation. Often takes smoke breaks but will become flustered if seen with a cigarette between her fingers by most.
