It's hard work being a lion mom. In the golden glow of the afternoon sun in Kenya's Maasai Mara, this lionesses became the unwilling 'prey' for a group of playful cubs. For the youngsters, it's a chance to practise their stalking, hunting and pouncing skills on a moving target – an important lesson that could one day prove crucial. But for the tired lioness, the game is about tolerating a pile of cubs clambering on her back while she tries to reserve her strength for an evening hunt.

my favorite thing about navigating fanfiction is finding a really good one and being all “oh boy this was good, I hope they have more!” and literally every other story they’ve ever written was for like Miami Vice
the tag game on this post is so strong
#a lot of the time this happens because someone in their 40’s got into 1 new thing and threw a fic at it before resuming business as usual#like sorry gang they’re not a youth who’s weirdly into your mom’s shows they’re your mom who played genshin impact

An amazing anecdote from early on in the construction of the World Trade Center. Everyone wanted to come see the construction site; some people got the VIP treatment.

(music video: "16 Military Wives" - The Decemberists [2005])
i was soooooo insane about this song *checks calendar* Eighteen Years Ago
I think if there's a single message I want to convey in my general presentation... I want people to look at me and think "...that motherfucker listens to the Decemberists"
working a bunch this week, here's some thoughts
it is often said, when someone is talking about public-facing work, that People Do Not Read, and this is very often true. you post a sign, people will walk by it and you'll just have to tell them whatever the sign said. sometimes when i am a customer, i catch myself doing this. it's fairly universal. it's like saying "you too" when you meant "thank you"; everyone does it and the employee involved barely notices. it doesn't even stick in my memory unless someone walks past the sign, i talk to them, and they intentionally continue to press the issue.
except tonight at work, i had not one but two people walk by me, see the sign, read the sign, and turn around before i could say a word. delightful, but a little weird.
(also i made a scary phone call today; yet again, the thing i put off for a week took about five minutes to resolve. this will happen again.)
whip cream
a story in five parts:
1. my room faces east and tends to accumulate heat, even with blackout curtains
2. it’s been hot as fuck here lately, and still warm enough and/or polluted enough at night that opening the window wouldn’t help
3. running computer games makes my laptop heat up to worrying levels, making both me and the room hot
4. overheating makes me feel ill and miserable
5. to prevent overheating of me, my computer, and the whole room, I’ve had to avoid playing computer games for like the last week :(

I got a 4 min long video of Kimchi dreaming today, so here's a clip
You get the whole walk cycle and the little sprint at the end.
Sometimes her sprints last for like 4 or 5 seconds and she can shoot herself off the couch or into a wall if she gets a grip with her back claws. If she does it next to a wall, her head smacking into it sounds like someone is trying to break into the house. She doesn't wake up.
Later in the dream she injured her paw and was limping, and earlier she caught something and ate it.
Arches National Park (the National Monument). Magazine cover photo. 1951.
The observatory at the original World Trade Center... from the outside. Inside, you can see the distinctive white railings. Above the observatory, the 108th floor Mechanical Equipment Room.
This photo was taken from Windows on the World, in the other tower, but that's the only scrap of information I've been able to find.
