Higurashi Manga Adaptations of the Core Arcs
I have finished (in some cases re-)reading the 8 core arcs in jp. I kind of have opinions on them, as adaptations. I also read some side arcs because they were included in my boxset, but I will cover them separately.
I have Opinions on them, including some really negative ones, so you have been warned.
PS: 1. At the end of the day anyone who has written a whole manga I have deep respect for, no matter how much shit I talk it's still with this in mind. 2. I read most of these physically, which inevitably impacted my opinion sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. You'll see.
3. I have last reread higurashi vn around 10 years ago, so my memory of it is not super fresh, there might be times where things I attribute to the adaptation is accurate to the manga.
I genuinely think that Satoko suffers almost as much as Rika spoilers for the entire series
I dont even know where to begin, because there's so so many things in her life that have went wrong. She believes that her abuse is deserved and she tries to bear it all by herself. Her one source of stability, Satoshi, is gone. Even when she wasnt getting abused by her uncle, her relationship with her family was rocky. It is mentioned that her mother would constantly change fathers and Satoko never took kindly to them. At first, she may seem stupid for this, but you have to remember that she is a child and children often times reject their parents' new partners. Also she is def haunted by the fact she was overcome with paranoia and pushed her parents off a cliff in an act of "self defense" She is rejected by the rest of Hinamizawa just for simply being a Houjou, (meanwhile Rika is loved and spoiled by the villagers) It is subtle but incredibly painful at the same time, shes treated as an outsider. Everyone watches her abuse quietly and pretends they dont see it in the first place In chapter 3 she sees her closest friend/girlfriend get gutted in the most gruesome way possible and she thinks that the one who did it was Keiichi, a person she thought of as a big brother (and we know how much a siblings bond means to her). Throughout chapter 3 shes shown to be very close to him so it makes it all the more painful that he's turned into a monster in her eyes In chapter 5 it made an impression on me that when she gets brutally beat with a chair by Shion, she thinks it was her friend Mion suddenly snapping. It would only re affirm her beliefs that she deserves her abuse. (when her torture scene is about to ensue it is mentioned that she talks to Mion and realizes Shion was disguising as her, but it still sucks it happened in the first place) And yeah the torture scene... My poor girl never deserved that :( The alluded sexual abuse is also incredibly sad. Of course theres no character in Higurashi that doesnt go through shit but I think Satoko has it as bad as Rika and her life is tragic, especially when u stop and think about how mentally broken a real person would be if you put them through what shes gone through. Also isnt she literally like 11-12? Anyway I love her character thank you for reading my rambles feel free to give thoughts

The World Trade Center Bombing: Report and Analysis
A fire engineering point of view on the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Material originally created by/for Fire Engineering magazine, re-published (with their permission) by the US Fire Administration. Most of the images from the original magazine issue do not appear in this reprint. I think the original magazine issue was for December 1, 1993, but I havenโt solidly tracked it down.
