First photo taken at The Circle in the Square // last photo taken at The Circle in the Square. 6.20.2015 - Sydney walked into the theatre just as I was about to leave, thinking I wouldn't be able to get a ticket. Her mom, Karri, had stopped to talk to a member of the theatre staff, stalling Sydney in the lobby, and they were the only two there. It took me so long to pluck up the courage to talk to her that just after the photo was taken, the box office called over to me saying they had a cancellation. 9.10.2016 - As I was leaving the stage door for the last time, I stopped to thank the man who (at Karri's suggestion) gave me his front row seat and to say hello to Sydney's brother, Jake, who had just arrived. As I was turning to leave, Karri stopped me for one last photo. I like bookends. I was seated by the same usher, I walked down the same aisle my first and last time in this theater. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Lucas family for, among a million other things, helping me find my way to the two most perfect seats in The Circle in the Square. It started and it ended with a photo with @sydneylucasnyc 💖 (at Circle in the Square Theatre)

So, last night, I went from lucky to be there at all to luckiest ever person in the front row when Sydney Lucas's mom suggested one of her friends trade seats with me. A lot of stars aligned to get me where I was last night, and I think that Fun Home itself is one of the many stars that has gotten me to the point I'm at in my life today. I am sad to see this show go, not only for myself but for the many other people (especially women and girls) who have walked out of the Circle in the Square feeling the same validation I have and the same empowering feeling that they have the power to do whatever they put their minds to. This show was a slice of home for me my freshman year, I got to walk to Maple Avenue and feel like I was spending the evening with a family, a very valuable feeling when your real family is on the other side of the country. Wishing the happiest of trails to @pattenlauren ! One of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was my first Broadway Medium Alison, and will always have a special place in my heart because of it. I've had the pleasure of seeing her a couple times since then as both Al and as Joan (including Syd's last show, pictured here!) and am always impressed by her performance.
