Here comes an avalanche of bullshit

sw canon: they had a stable home, generous income, and spent time together as a family

sw canon: han was actually a stay-at-home dad for the most part while ben was living with them and was ben’s primary caregiver

sw canon: as a young child, ben solo was happy and had friends

sw canon: after ben became a danger to himself and others, his parents sought out the best possible way to help him, which was to send him to specialized occupational therapy given by his uncle, who loved him and had the same condition as ben

sw canon: it was only after ben went to live with luke that han started working outside the home, but even that was legitimate business – he ran a cargo-shipping company and raced starships for charity. he left his smuggling days behind him.

sw canon: luke doted on ben and thought he was the true chosen one, destined to bring balance to the force. he put a lot of trust in his nephew and valued his presence.

sw canon: snoke didn’t start targeting ben solo in the womb. that’s literally just fanon.

sw canon: kylo ren literally says he didn’t hate his father. snoke specifically challenged him to kill han solo because of how much ben solo and han loved each other.

sw canon: even though luke had a moment of weakness and considered ending the life of the next galactic super-terrorist before it could become a problem that costs the lives of billions, it was literally *a moment* of weakness, in which he didn’t actually hurt ben, and no longer intended to by the time kylo ren, you know, slaughtered a dozen jedi who had nothing to do with luke’s bad judgment.

I think the thing that bothers me the most about the hand touch comment isn’t that he compared touching hands to sex (and planet Vulcan would agree with me here), but that if we are to take this scene as a sex scene it makes an already uncomfortable scene that much worse.

Before we even get into the scene itself, there’s the fact that both parties have had their agency and consent stripped away by Snoke forcing them into the force skype or w/e. But I’m not here to talk about Kylo Ren right now, I’m mainly focused on how Daisy chose to portray Rey in this interaction.  Because if you look at Rey’s expression, she’s obviously not into what’s happening. She looks uneasy and terrified and reluctant. Her hands are shaking, there are tears in her eyes. This isn’t how you show an interaction for a couple you’re expecting your audience to root for.

There are many ways this scene could have played out depending on how the actors behaved and the fact that they went with Daisy acting Rey being supremely not okay with what’s happening is really telling. I don’t ship r3ylo and I really can’t see a situation where I would ship it, it makes me very uncomfortable for a lot of reasons that have already been discussed elsewhere, but rj and tlj could have made me and a lot of fans a little less averse to the ship had they handled it differently. Coming out of tfa, r3ylo already had people raising issues about consent and for rj to literally force these two characters together without their consent, film this scene in a way that implies at least questionable consent on Rey’s part and then refer to it as an allegorical sex scene seems like an odd choice if we’re not supposed to be repulsed by this ship. I’m a little iffy on what they could have done to handle it better because this ship is my notp, but I can say that this definitely wasn’t it.

Drug addicts turn on their own friends and family especially when an addict hasn’t had their fix, they’re cruel, they act selfish, they make horrific decisions and choices in order to remain on that high.

I don’t think that ruined her character, it’s an interesting trait after all. Even in comics she wanted to be hero so so badly. Storyline is different but motivation the same.
