Everett, not unlike Agent Coulson, has a complete deck of vintage Captain America cards, in fairly good condition. They were given to him by his father when he was a young boy and Captain America was his hero, largely based on the stories his father told him. While he would probably never admit to it, it’s part of the reason he was so harsh with Captain America when he broke the Sokovia Accords. Because Captain America was supposed to be a hero, and he was supposed to follow the rules. ( Rules are very important to Everett. ) He thought about getting rid of the cards following that, but Shahirah talked him out of it. So he kept them, and––following him having gained some perspective on why Steve Rogers refused to sign the Accords, he’s glad that he kept them.

Everett very much has a very strict ‘right or wrong’ mentality. This does not necessarily always pertain to written law. Sometimes it has more to do with his own personal moral code, or what he has come to expect of someone. As such, when someone violates that code, he sometimes has to step back and re-evaluate, at times seeming standoffish towards the person who brought it about. He may not even necessarily be angry. It might be disappointment, or just that he needs time to process. Sometimes he has to be by himself to work through things.

Shahirah may be 5′3″, but don’t think she’s going to allow anyone to run over the top of her. Despite her usual warm and calm temperament, she will not allow disrespect to be shown towards her––or anyone else for that matter––and she will fiercely defend, not only her reputation and her place as one of the foremost in her field, but also the people for whom she cares. Essentially, she may be a smol, but she will fite. Some of this is due to being raised by a father who was retired military. Some is due to her field being one that was, at one point and quite possibly still, dominated by men. So she will be very assertive but polite, until such time as she is given reason to not be so polite anymore. And she has a very sharp wit.

Everett could not carry a tune with a bucket. He is so tone deaf where musicality is concerned, it’s not even funny. What’s more, he knows this both at his own realization and because Shirah told him as much, while laughing and offering kisses to soothe any bruised ego. He just laughed right along with her.

He had realized his wallet was missing. Knew the likely suspect had probably taken it. However, when the boy had reappeared with coffee for all three of them, he was willing to let it slide. After all, that is a vast improvement over the days he’d have taken his money and only gotten coffee for himself, right? One step at a time.

He realizes what has happened as soon as he gets the first taste of the coffee, just as the young boy comes out with those dreaded words, “April Fool’s!”

But he won’t be defeated. Not so easily as that.

And so, briefly looking Loki dead in the eye, he proceeds to down the entire rest of the coffee in one go and then sets the empty cup down on the table.

“You have no idea of the hard choices I make each day and you never will. It is easy for those whom the consequences of their actions have no effect. If you fail then you are replaced and if I were to fail then my people would be wiped from the planet. Already your people poison the seas and have hurt my people.”

Namor settled back and crossed his arms staring down the diplomat, “Your power and that of your country is nothing compared to that of Atlantis. Should any be stupid enough to to seek war then I will drown the world. Now that is not a threat. It is a promise from the Avenging Son. As I said before, I did what I must. The lives of my people come before any other. Including my own.”

Eyes going wide, a laugh escapes him, though it is not a pleasant one.

“Your Highness, I don’t pretend to understand what it’s like to be king. From what I’ve seen, looks like a pretty lonely and demanding job. But you think my decisions and actions don’t have consequences?” he repeats, a bit incredulously. 

“If I give someone the wrong instructions, people can die. I make the wrong decision, people can die. I pass along the wrong intel, people can die. In any and every one of those scenarios, a lot of people can die, including my people, some of whom have worked with and for me for years.” 

And if it’s just him that does something wrong, then he can die and leave his wife a widow.

“But that’s beside the point. I am well aware that you would be willing to lay down your own life for your people, but that’s what I’m trying to help you avoid. The last thing I want is for there to be any loss of life. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I’m trying to help you.”
