I hope that Alecto explores Gideon's individual identity. We see how much she's defined by being Harrow's cavalier and how lost she is as Kiriona.
In GtN, she willingly fulfills her perceived duty to that role by sacrificing herself. This is ultimately rejected by Harrow (and she misinterprets why but that's ok we still love her) and then her soul is half torn and half lost in the back of Harrow's modified brain for months where she can't perform her cavalier duties to protect Harrow and it drives her isane. For a moment she's able to act on her role while Harrow's in the River and absolutely thrives, and then she's gone again.
Then by NtN her leftover soul is stuffed into her corpse and reanimated without its heart. She's renamed and given a new title and duty, which she's apathetic toward at best, “I mean, it’s fine, you can call me Gideon if you want,- I kind of keep forgetting it’s me when people say Kiriona". She receives no respect for it when returning to her old life and no satisfaction in destroying that old life (the Crux killing).
By the end, when Alecto is woken up and pledges herself as protector to Harrow, Gideon still objects (like a wedding lmao), because that's her job. It's her one and only job, and it's what she's been falling back on to this whole time.
The name Gideon isn't even hers, it was just given to her by the nuns based on the last words of her mother's ghost, which were cursing the Saint of Duty. Griddle is ironically the only name that's specific to Gideon as a person.
