Wretched by Finback.
I haven’t had much by Finback, as most of their options are IPAs. However, this is a stout that truly caught my attention. Pecans, maple, and coffee.
You get coffee strong on the nose, a little hint of maple to tease your nose. The taste is very bold with coffee, then pecan, and finishes off with the maple. This is an enjoyable beer to drink, a sipping beer at 12.5% abv.
I would highly recommend picking up a 4-pack. This beer would pair nicely with a hearty meal, or even just a dessert- maybe those Girl Scout cookies you just purchased would be a great pairing.
Proclamation Ale Xenith Salted Caramel Imperial Stout. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Beer Rant
This has been something that has been building up in me for a while now. As most know and follow this blog, I am a fan of beers of all types. I enjoy mostly stouts, porters, barleywines, and Belgians (dubbels, tripels, quads, etc.). While those are my favorites, I have also found some Oktoberfests, lagers, Sessions, and IPAs that I enjoy. Another thing I appreciate is the recent increase in breweries around the United States and other countries- I’m pleased to see so much passion for brewing beers.
However, my biggest problem is that just about every new brewery that releases a beer or more- is ALWAYS an IPA. A double IPA. A session IPA. Dry hopped IPA. IPA with different hops, multiple hops, rare hops, IPAs until you drown in them. Now, I don’t mind that a brewery comes out with an IPA, but I would really appreciate it if these newer breweries could try making different styles.
Why not make a Biere de Garde? Porters? Pilsners? Oktoberfests? Bocks? Dopplebocks? Quads? Barleywines? Or even a Rauchbier? You make so many great IPAs, why not expand, broaden your horizons? I’m tired of seeing new breweries making waves and it’s like:
“What kind of beer do you have?”
“Well, this is an IPA with galaxy hops...”
“What else do you have?”
“This is a session IPA made with grapefruit...”
“I like grapefruit, but I’m not much of a fan of IPAs. What else do you make?”
“We have a Brett ale...”
“Too trendy. What else?”
“Sour?”
“Sorry, we are done here. Let me know when you aren’t oversaturating the market with trendy styles. You have potential, try something different.”
I’m tired of hops. Yes, I know it’s a main ingredient, but it doesn’t have to be the frontperson in the band of ingredients used in beers.
Brew different styles, be adventurous! There’s more to the beer world than IPA.

After attending the Iron Pour, we had a cheese night. Beer was the drink of choice. I suggested we split this beer. We are drinking the Lizard of Koz by Founders. I didn’t get much of an aroma, in fact, nothing. Everything about this beer is in the flavor. You get the chocolate, the blueberry, and some vanilla hints in there. Not as much bourbon, but it had the same tart as a sour beer, which was interesting. Despite its high abv, I found it easily drinkable. I really enjoyed this beer, and it paired perfectly with the cheeses we had- smoked Gouda, beemster, bleu cheese, and some merlot cheddar. I don’t know if Founders will release this beer again, but if they do, I highly recommend picking up a bottle.
My all-time second favorite stout- Ten Fidy by Oskar Blues. It’s been in my store for a while (canned date reads 10/3/2016), can’t wait to try it.
With the weather being nice today, we decided to unwind with a light, yet strong beer. The beer we are trying is the Sakitumi by Lagunitas. I picked up citrus, dank hoppiness on the nose. I taste sake, rice, and the sweetness that you get from a lot of Lagunitas beers. It's like a pleasant sweetness that massages your tongue as you enjoy the beer. I find that, for a 9% abv, this beer is very easy to drink. I'd highly recommend this beer, as I really enjoyed it. I really haven't had any beer by Lagunitas I didn't like. I suggest you get one if you see it. Get two. Get three. Shit, get them all and have a party.
Birthday beer number 2.
Celebrating my birthday the only way I know how- with a kick ass beer. Xocoveza Charred by Stone Brewing.

I had been sitting on this lovely bottle for about six months or more. Well worth the wait last night.
I decided to crack this open after watching some Mad Men. We're on season five. It's Schneider Weisse's Marie's Rendezvous Dopplebock. Highly recommend trying it.
Happy Saturday! I'm making strides with my blog as of late. After going over a year with no new posts, I'm on what feels like my fifth new post in a month. Anyway, this beer I'm drinking tonight is the Half Moon Stout by Penobscot Bay Brewery, a place we visited while vacationing in Maine. There isn't much of an aroma to it. It's got a slightly sweet and malty flavor to it, yet slightly thick and smooth on the taste buds. I find it to be a very easily drinkable stout, but should be enjoyed rather than pounding it back. I really enjoyed this beer. The only downside was pouring it in our glasses. I'm wondering if it was refrigerated for too long because it was just foam when I poured. It took a while to get it to settle down enough to pour some more in the glass, but don't let that be a deal breaker. This is an excellent beer from an excellent brewery. I highly recommend going to Penobscot Bay and giving this brewery a try. They sell wine too.
Today, I heard the sad news that Brittanny's dog was going to be put down. He was a good dog and will forever be in our hearts. I'm dedicating this blog post to Maxwell, because like the cute pig on the label, he is also a Saint. Tonight, we drink to you with this Allagash St. Klippenstein. It's oaky and a bit chocolatey on the nose. The taste is a bit boozy, full-bodied, and I can taste hints of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon. For a bourbon barrel-aged stout, it's pretty easy to drink. Considering Allagash is known for making Belgian-style beers and has been riding the trend of sours and ales with brett, I'm impressed they made a bourbon barrel-aged stout. Also, I'd like to say I really enjoyed this beer, and I'd highly recommend picking up a bottle if you can.
Happy Fourth! Everyone will be having cookouts, drinking 'Murica beers, watching parades, shooting off fireworks, and whatever else. For me, I'm having this s'more stout by Base Camp Brewing. I smell graham cracker and chocolate just before I take a sip. I can taste the toasted marshmallow and some hints of chocolate. It is enjoyable, but it's best to sip, as it's a bit rich in flavor. I like this beer. I'd recommend to anyone to give it a try. It has good flavor, quite drinkable, and just all around a great beer.

After watching three episodes of Vikings, and celebrating the summer solstice, I felt I should have a refreshing beer. Tonight, I'm drinking Brothers in Farms by Two Roads. There isn't much on the nose, a bit of wheat and hints of banana. The taste is grainy, with mild fruitiness at the end. It's an easily drinkable beer as well. I like this beer. It's refreshing, easy to drink, isn't overly hoppy, and doesn't have anything overwhelming in terms of taste. I highly recommend trying this beer.
Welcome to Lubec, ME, and the beginning of my vacation. To kick off the vacation, I thought we could try something special. I bought this at my store, figuring I'd drink it on a special occasion. Here's the 2nd Anniversary Belgian Style Dark Ale by Grey Sail. The aroma hits you with a blend of wheat and sugar, not much else. The taste is sweet with molasses and raisin. This was a pretty easy to drink beer, even with its relatively strong abv of 9.5% (and it had been aging for quite a while). I enjoyed the beer, managed to drink it faster than I had imagined. Even though it was a limited release, I'd recommend it to anyone if you can find a bottle at your local liquor store.
