And on the Ember Island Players episode when Katara says that she was confused.

Maybe it's not just because she had started to slowly develop a little secret crush on Zuko. But its also because of what the fortune teller said. That's why Katara told Aang that she was confused.

And when Zuko took that lighting for her at the last Agni Kai. Those feelings that Katara slowly started to feel for him started to kind of Bud a little bit.

And maybe on the coronation day what if Katara was going to Zuko's room to check on his lightning scar. But Mai was there. And when Katara was looking through the crack of the door seeing those two together. Katara starts to have mixed emotions.

And so she chose Aang at the end because of that. (By the way I would have just have them hug in the end.)

But even so those relationships wouldn't last. Zuko's relationship with Mai didn't last.

And Aang and Katara relationship don't last ether because.

1) Aang didn't change much

2) Katara is always his anchor

3) Aang leaves a lot which is not good for somebody who has abandonment issues.

But even if Aang and Katara's relationship doesn't work out. They will stay as friends though. (Of course we all know that.) I feel like they might break up around 16 and 18 maybe.

Of course we all know why Mai and Zuko broke up. (Not to mention their relationship is kinda a on and off again kind of relationship.)

And maybe Katara can be on her own. She travels, maybe teachers the new generation of waterbenders, help rebuild her home and be an ambassador.

So at the age of 19 and 21 that's when Katara and Zuko come together.

Which is crazy to me because Aang was way less justified than Korra. Korra was a teenager who didn't listen to her dad and Tenzin because she found out they were keeping things from her, Aang was a grown man who had no legitimate reason not to listen to his "found family" (which included the love of his life btw) other than the fact that Tagah was an Airbender and that was after he neglected to tell Aang himself about the storm.

And then everyone gets revived (which, as much as I love Katara, was bullshit because how did she heal herself if she was dead?) and they don't even so much as scold Aang. Bryke has always held Korra to a standard they don't enforce onto Aang and the fandom perpetuates that.

Korra's mistakes result in "world ending" outcomes because the narrative makes it that way. The only reason Aang's don't is because the narrative has always gone easier on him, even in situations where him and Korra behave the same way.

These two girls went from hating the guys one second...

...to bonding with them in a way they never did with anyone else a second later.

Bonus:

Zuko calls her name again. Katara smiles.

She wants to tell him he doesn't need to worry—she'll never hide her scars from him. The very idea is ridiculous. He's always let her see all of him. Why wouldn't she return the favor?

Zuko is smart. Zuko is protective. Zuko knows the pain of a burn. He'll help her heal. She knows this as surely as she knows her own name.
