Thinking about how isekais usually arenāt shy about what kind of wish fulfillment an author wanted as they were writing
This writer was apparently like,Ā āI want a Dragon Quest Slime as a pet, no wait, I want a Dragon Quest Slime as a SONā
Just a man and his blob son
renaissance in the 21st century
some more
the WHAT??
okay, found her
Obviously there are many things to dislike about adulthood but as someone who grew up in an abusive household for whom adulthood offered the only chance at an escape, it's incredibly important to me that i romanticize adulthood whenever possible because i know there are kids and teenagers like me out there who are seeing nothing but complaints about rent and taxes and the loneliness of living on your own and i know they're going to internalize all of that and assume it means that adulthood won't offer them the freedom and safety they've been dreaming of. So while i never want to minimize the difficulties of being an adult, i also want to highlight how incredibly nice it can be to finally have ownership of your life and your body and your time and money and food and everything else in a way that you never had before. You can choose when you wake up! You can choose what you have for breakfast! You can choose when to go to sleep or if you want to (inadvisably) stay up all night watching tv in the living room! In the living room! You can choose what to watch! These are little things, but they are worth taking pleasure in, and they are worth looking forward to.
Oh. Man. I'm in my 40s now, but can STILL remember the first apartment I lived in alone. The first week, I had nothing. NOTHING. I slept on the floor wrapped up in curtains, until a friend came to visit and was like "welp. This ain't keepin' on" and gave me a folding bed and a couple of blankets. There were part of it that were just... not fun. You know what I did, though? I made cookies. Because I wanted them, and nobody could keep me from using the kitchen. I got a cat, because nobody could tell me "no". I took long, hot bubble baths because the bathroom - and the bathtub - were MINE and nobody else's. I turned MY music up and danced around MY living room all day (but was aware of the family with children downstairs, so shut down the one person party before it got too late). I bought a cast-off couch for cheap and had friends help me bring it in, and sat on MY couch and sewed. And crocheted. And started to teach myself to knit. The only one there to tell me "no" was the kitten, and she loved playing with the yarn. There were things about it that were exceptionally hard. I was a pregnant single waitress truly struggling to pay bills and put food on the table. But that's not what stuck. What stayed with me, and what was important, was those little things that made being an adult worthwhile.
You will get out and you will get free and it still rains, sometimes, but you get to decide whether to stay in or put up your umbrella or just let it pour down your face while you stomp puddles. You get to choose. It's not paradise, but it is, in the end, yours, which is such a relief. And all the things they say about the best of life being free - that's true. You will have happiness of your own making.
Biggest failing of the internet is that in order to be vibing with my friends I have to actually be talking to them. I socialize like a cat I just show affection by sitting next to you. Ily but sometimes I have Nothing to say. Not a damn thing going on in my head
I don't want to "have" a "conversation" I want to peel an orange and share it with you

I got 1 task done today. I emptied the big trash can in my bedroom. That's one less fork to deal with.
I have severe executive dysfunction. I've been dealing with it by having myself do one small task a day. So far it's helped a lot. By doing it this way my brain doesn't freak out trying to tackle everything at once.
I got my inspiration for it from this Donald Duck comic:
Oh my God this is so fucking wholesome

Hey! Could you recommend me some Asian shows (your favorite perhaps?) ? I havenāt finished a show in ages because I usually donāt like and get bored with western shows... Iām sorry for being a bother :(
YES!!! I can definitely recommend a handful! The titles are links to where you can watch them with eng subs!
(Note: I donāt watch that many shows because of life, so this is actually a pretty starved list. But any one of them is a gateway drug to a whole world of asian dramas. See bottom for shows Iāve been recced but never watched.)
ā
BLOODY ROMANCEĀ (2018)Ā Ā
Rating: 9.5/10Genre: Historical fantasy cdramaLength: 1 season, 36 eps, 40 min each (completed)Plot: A young girl escapes a brothel and finds her way to Guihua City, which is a city of female assassins. Every female assassin chooses a Shadow (a male assassin and servant). The girl and her Shadow fall in love amidst a bloody struggle for power and revenge.
Review: BLS WATCH IT!!! THIS IS MY FAVOURITE OF THE LIST. Ignore the corny english title (the chinese title is much better).Ā I can spew about this show forever, where do I even START. This is one of the most tightly, brilliantly written and complex plotwork Iāve ever watched in a show. Itās a show where, even though I read the ending first, I still needed to watch every second of it, and any minute I skip might be a plot point missed. Itās that tight.Ā
My favourite thing about the show is that it is a FEMALE DOMINANT CAST (legit, for every one strong male character, there are three (fucking gorgeous) strong female characters), and everybody has their own complex character arcs and backgrounds. Itās amazing and so refreshing. Even the horrible villainess you learn to feel sorry for after you learn what has happened to her. Oh my god and the music. There is one melody they use in the most tragic love scenes, and when I listen to it now I still want to cry. Also the ACTING OF THE SECOND MALE LEAD (Wang Duo) IS PHENOMENAL⦠heās SO good that while he may not be conventionally attractive, he has become more and more beautiful to me, and I actually want to watch other shows/movies heās in. (God, that one drunk scene.) The designs of the sets and costumes, and the overall cinematography, are absolutely masterful⦠each shot is like a painting, and it makes me want to step inside. I canāt get enough of it.
The story asks some pretty tough, philosophical questions about life, death, responsibility and power. Itās an action drama about assassins, after all.The romance part of the show is really well-woven into the overall plot; the pining, the angst, and the occasional beautiful moments of fluff has emptied me of tears. I cried watching this at work lmao.
My god, itās s e r i o u s l y worth the watch. Please please please watch this if you watch nothing else on this list; I want this show to get more popular. Itās beautiful.
The UntamedĀ Ā (2019)Ā
Rating: 9/10Genre: Xianxia fantasy cdramaLength: 1 season, 50 eps, 50 min each (ongoing - 4 new eps per week)Plot: Wei Wuxian, a young infamous cultivator whoĀ ādiedā 16 years ago wakes up in a new body, and gets caught up in a power struggle between the main families of the cultivator world. He gets help from Lan Wangji, a very oldā¦Ā āfriendā who has mourned and missed him much more than he knows.
Review: EYE CANDY, BRILLIANT STORY, BEAUTIFUL AESTHETICS. This is a live adaptation of the viral online gay chinese novel calledĀ ééē„åø (Mo Dao Zu Shi) that has an anime and a manhua too. It is beautifully made. THE COLOURS. The designs and costumes are even more beautiful and breathtaking than Bloody Romance. The acting is surprisingly good for a cast of chinese idols (there are professional actors in the mix, however) - theyāre going for eye candy (the target audience is young women hehe). And the actors they chose⦠really are hot. Oof *chefās kiss*
I also like the drama characters much more than in the original novel; they added character developing scenes and more softness and depth to some of the less-liked characters in the story. Itās very obvious the writers of the show are big fans of the original novel; they did it great justice. Very tightly written, character-driven plot.
ALSO! The original story is canonically gay. While the Chinese govāt censors lgbtq+ media, the creators, cast and crew of The Untamed have gone above and beyond to sneak in as much of the romance between the two male leads as possible, and itās quite obvious too. There is no forced hetero romance for those characters. They even added some classic romantic tropes (falling over each other, some very heavy gazing moments, etc, hnng) that werenāt even in the book. Agh⦠I feel so fedā¦
The Tale of ArangĀ (2012)Ā Ā
Rating: 7/10Genre: historical romantic comedy kdramaLength: 1 season, 20 eps, 1 hr each (completed)Plot: A girl has died and her soul canāt remember her living life at all. She is on the run from grim reapers as she tries to find her memories, and she meets a young, living man who can somehow see her, and so she enlists his help.
Review: This is a very fun show. Itās been a year since Iāve seen it, so my review will be brief. If the above two shows are full-course meals from a five star restaurant, this show is a delicious guilty pleasure snack. It starts off lighthearted and fun, and super super cute, but it gets more serious as it goes on, and⦠tbh, a little bit draggy. The main girl loses much of the spunk that made her so lovable in the beginning, and gains more stupidity. The writers made her do the dumbest things near the end, just to drive the plot where they wanted it. Poor writing there. Still, it has a happy ending that was so sooooo cute it made me cry. I feel like if you love your typical YA romance fantasy novels with a love triangle and cute cliche pining tropes, youāll definitely enjoy this one. I definitely lost some calories laughing.
I AM NOT A ROBOTĀ (2017)Ā Ā
Rating: 9/10Genre: Romantic comedy kdramaLength: 1 season, 32 eps, 30 min each (completed)Plot: A young man named Kim Min Kyu is a child prodigy and is the heir to a massive company. But he is severely allergic to human skin contact, and has lived alone for years. A young woman in need of money accidentally finds herself disguised as a robot in his mansion, and shenanigans ensue.
Review: This is one of the cutest yet also deeply moving show Iāve ever watched. The leads are SO FREAKING CUTE AND HILARIOUS, and there are so many funny fluffy moments that made me spill all of my uwus. The acting is BRILLIANT, oh my god. The design and cinematography, especially during the emotional scenes, are wonderfully fresh. The music is so cute.Ā
I also really like how this show addresses a particular subject matter that is rarely given proper attention to in Asia - mental illnesses, in particular psychosomatic illnesses. Since itās a fictional story, the character has a pretty extreme version of such an illness, but it hits most of the right notes about the difficulties of people living with it. You canāt tell people to justĀ āget over itā, itās a real thing that needs time and trust to get better, and it may never really go away and always a work in progress. The story portrays that well. The romantic comedy part and this serious drama part of the show are mixed perfectly together. Itās a roller coaster of emotions; itās a well-paced, simple story with lovable characters, and overall will leave you feeling very satisfied after watching it. Ahh the ending was so wholesome.
ā
I recommend cdramas for meaty stories, with massive but tight, heavy plots, fantastical worldbuilding, and a shit tonne of complex characters, and kdramas for simpler relaxing stories with lovable characters and wholesome comedy.
Some highly recommended dramas Iāve never watched but want to (theyāre all complex plotty historical fantasies bc apparently thatās what Iām into. Eng sub links included in name):
Mengfei Comes AcrossĀ (romantic comedy)
Nirvana in FireĀ (historical drama) (The ratings for this show are freakishly high??? And my entire extended family on my momās side is nuts about this. Iāve seen a couple of episodes, and from what I saw I know I need to be really mentally prepared for this show. Iām probably not gonna eat or sleep if I start this lmao)
Ashes of LoveĀ (fantasy historical romance. Thereās like a cult of middle-aged asian moms for this show)
The Longest Day in ChangāAnĀ (historical fantasy(?) drama)
If you watch any of these, please let me know what you think!!! I hope youāll take my recs (BLS WATCH BLOODY ROMANCE AHHHHHHH)
NezuYuki!
The more I worked on this, the more I felt people who donāt know FurryBa think about what the heck is going onā LOL
