Ticks are dicks, but doctors are worse!

"erm actually this thing you said you experienced, where doctors treated you wrong, is illegal!!" Do you understand that medical malpractice is a real thing and not just a plot device from House MD. You get that, right. Right??

One thing i find interesting is that if you look at any forum for people in the medical sphere, and look for any discussion mentioning malpractice, 100% all of those discussions are about avoiding consequences for malpractice, not a single one where the doctor admits they had done wrong, or feels bad for sometimes even killing a person.

That stupid hierarchy of disability pyramid in the cripplepunk tag pisses me off so much. Physical disabilities are not more respected or treated better and they listed psychiatric disabilities as the ones with the least social capital. Apparently they suffer more than christ, even though I literally got denied the psych ward during a crisis for being too physically disabled.

It can be easy to confuse the two, but you don't actually "wish you were more disabled", you wish your disability was taken seriously and was properly accommodated and that you had access to the support and resources you need - and that desire is so valid. You deserve more. But the sad truth is that no level of disability actually guarantees a sufficient level of support. So you have to work to separate your very understandable desire for more support from the incorrect assumption that other disabled people are consistently receiving what you aren't. All of us are getting fucked over in this society, and no group of disabled people actually has it easy.

something something that quote about how much of gender presentation is made of one’s mannerisms and one’s walk and how much disability inhibits or totally disallows that, rendering you forcibly genderless in presentation. something something the fact that disabled adults are so frequently infantilised and framed as sexless and unfuckable. something something “you can’t be trans/gay AND disabled”. something something being stripped of your adult, gendered, sexual identity as a disabled person.

it is genuinely legitimately WILD that its so common for doctors to basically say “you just think you’re in pain but u actually aren’t. its all in your head” like if we read in a history book that they did that in the 1800s we’d be like woah the medical field of the past was awful!!! but its literally happening now. actually imagine literally any other field of science encountering evidence that doesnt line up with exactly what they were taught and just being like “nah my education is infallible, its the evidence that is wrong”

Shout out to people with very treatable or curable disabilities who aren't treated or cured. Whether it be bad luck, poor responses to treatment, inability to take treatments, not being willing to deal with potential side effects, whatever, you deserve accommodation and to be taken seriously as a disabled person. I hope the next person to tell you "that's not a disability" or "just do [basic treatment]" explodes painfully.
