My new venture..breeding Labrador retrievers

  Woodmont Retrievers’ Mama, Ketli Well, it is not really new. This March my dog Ketli who you see in my posts will be having her second litter. I call my kennel Woodmont Labrador Retrievers in honor of my favorite orchard in our town, Hollis,  NH. The header of this blog is a photo of Woodmont. In the book, Wild, by Cheryl Strayed some backpackers named Cheryl’s backpack “Monster”. My fellow backpacking companions named my pack, ” The Black Hole” because I was always unloading it to find things and what I pulled out seemed endless. I wore a Go Lite pack with only an opening in the top. Next time, despite the weight..I will carry one with a bigger opening..and hopefully I will pack…

I let the puppy out through the dog dog and BAM she plowed right into 18 inches of snow. No problem for an athletic, outdoorsy Labrador retriever.. Ketli leaped up and down through the snow to the yard and then back again making a path for her 2 older siblings, 2 elderly golden retrievers.Later in the day I shoveled off the porch. Luckily the snow was light so I could just push some off.

Then…

The phone app StepWalk has been fun to play with over the last month. It tracks my hikes and includes fun dog prints along the route. This is a screenshot of a hike in the town forest of Hollis, NH which is right out my back door. In the winter when I have Hike a Pup dogs I cut through the woods off trail in big loops that only I can figure out! For a while the swamp which is usually impassable…

This is what it should look like this morning. The dogs should be romping in NH snow. But this is what it looks like today:

We will still be outside burning off steam before the extended family arrives to celebrate. 

Today we hiked 4 miles in Brookline, NH. My Fit Bit clocked me in as climbing 28 flights of stairs which shows how hilly the terrain was.
