The protagonist of my book can just go to the doctor when something is wrong, that is how you know it is a fantasy.

Meanwhile I have to wait four months to see my GI specialist about these endless debilitating abdominal cramps.

Kairos has decided her new favorite place to hang out is on my painting desk. I have not moved her, but I am going to need to use that desk eventually...to clean it if nothing else.

I am glad we are getting along, she is so sweet (only mauled my hand once and it was totally my fault, Espeon used to very gently play with my hand and when Kairos went into play mode, well, old habits and I got chewed on) and just so polite. She waits until I am awake to start meowing for breakfast, doesn't wake me in the middle of the night, has absolutely no interest in my plants, she doesn't try to steal my food and generally has no interest in human food, and if she wants up on my desk and there is something in the way she meows until I move it so she can sit there. Seriously, most polite cat ever.

The only problem is how quiet she is! Even though Espeon was tiny she stomped around and you always knew she was in the room, either because she was super vocal or just generally noisy. Kairos is whisper quiet and I have to constantly be careful to not step on her or roll over her with my chair. I say hello to her whenever I see her enter the room, so she is starting the habit of meowing when she walks in to let me know she is there, I am tempted to get her a bell, but then I would have to hear bell noises all the time.

So far it is nice just having Kairos, mostly because she is as I said, the most polite cat in existence, but part of me wants a second cat, since I had two cats for almost twenty years. I want a black cat as a way of paying homage to my baby Nyx, a very neurotic Maine Coon I adopted when Tao was young to keep her company. When I went out of town to work a summer job, the person who was babysitting them did fine with Tao, but Nyx escaped out into the countryside never to be seen again. I was devastated, and almost a year later I dreamed I got a new cat and the next morning while picking up free books from someone off Freecycle, we complimented his adorable kitten and he asked if we wanted it since he was moving, and when you dream a cat into existence you kinda have to take it.

And with that arc 22 is done, it sits at 134k words, shorter than I expected, but I still have to edit it and will likely add stuff. This arc was the hardest to write, the massive scope of it was just a lot, also it was a bit on the bleak side as I really set up for the finale.

So I need a break, Tales of Seikyu is out of EA and I am going to play through that, maybe read a nice fluffy book, and then it is time to edit and plotting out the next novel in my series. Oh yeah, and getting back to illustrations, the real time sink of this project.

After editing and redoing a massive section that I realized was not working...it ended up at 146k, still shorter than I expected for an arc that has SO MUCH happening.

I expect arc 23 to be much longer.

I really like diamond painting, it fills that niche that cross stitching, bead weaving, and embroidery used to (I loved doing that for years, but the motion of thread pulling was not doable with my joint issues, yet another hobby my disabilities tanked) I dabbled with perler beads, but I found the color selection and massive size too limiting for some of my really big ideas.

Diamond painting has fallen deep into the AI slop hole and I don't want to touch that, so I just decided to do my own with my own art. I got a couple custom prints made but they consistently used a very limited color selection and I wanted at least 50 colors to get that beautiful pixelated look. I didn't dabble in pointillism for nothing. So that meant time to design my own entirely from scratch.

I have to do it in segments, then I cut them and tape them together, (the pieces I am currently working on is massive) and then affix them to a backing of some sort. For smaller ones I am going to use old canvases I find at thrift stores, for bigger ones I am affixing them to heavy fabric sheets or curtains also from the thrift store and making them into tapestries. I will show this thing off when I finish it in several months! If you want to make your own patterns, I use Pixel Stitch for the coversion with Aida 10, and just screw around with the dimensions until it looks the way I want while in a size I want. I found that using Dotz Stick glue in a thick brushed on layer works better than double sided tape as long as you are printing on thick paper. I prefer round drills so I am using printed paper, but if you use square drills you can just buy glued canvas sheets from Aliexpress and not have to worry about the white background.

Now that it is done, I have some notes. First off, do NOT do it in sections, it works better if you cut and then glue everything to the canvas or fabric before doing the diamond painting because the glue and weight will cause weird shifting and some obvious gaps that I need to fill in with paint or something. Second: it is going to need way more glue and adhesive than expected because it is HEAVY when big. Third, figure out in advance what to do about the edging.

I have them taped but I am not happy with that, I might try painting them to make it look better, but I might try something else. The next piece I am going to do is already mounted to a canvas and is about half the size. I wonder how expensive it would be to get just custom printed canvases...I imagine very.

I just learned about this recently from a Viking reenactor! Indigo dye isn't blue until it oxidizes, so when you dye with indigo your cloth or thread doesn't come out of the water blue, it comes out and then reacts with the oxygen in the air and seems to spontaneously turn blue in front of your eyes. It's a really cool process to witness.

This upcoming fall and winter I am going to have to redo how I have my yard set up. I want to have a bunch of wild beds with lots of paths since I have to be honest with myself, I cannot really do any yard work in the summer. I was outside for about twenty minutes moving some pots around and watering and now I have a splitting headache and I am SO TACHY and of course have broken out in heat induced hives.

I think for my pots and raised beds I can set up a solar powered drip irrigation system and a bucket for rain water and can just fill up the bucket when we go rainless and just let them be on days when it is too hot for me to be outside for any amount of time. I need to take that idea to the rest of the yard, make the chaos look intentional and bring in a little more xeroscaping with gravel patches that have lots of creeping sedums in the parts of the yard that get sun. I want my yard to look like a wildlife refuge, not like the person in the house is too disabled to leave it most days
