Got into a conversation yesterday about how I'm not engaging with Harry Potter and the person I was talking with was like "What about published Harry Potter fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off?" And I was like "I'm not a fan of published fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off of anything. There are plenty of original stories and nonfiction I'd read before I read that. One Piece has over 110 volumes and Berserk has 383 chapters." And then they were like "what about Marauders era stuff?" And i blinked because I'm starting to realize HP fans think Marauders era is like, a degree of separation from Harry Potter just because it's largely offscreen backstory speculation and it's like, "No asshole, you're still engaging with this shit and giving JKR your time, energy, as well as continued cultural relevance. It's the same shit whether you're engaging with Harry or his dad."
