Marisol and Marty are twins, but Marty got terminally ill before the walk. Marisol told their mom that she sent the letter backing him out but she went instead

She knew she wasnt going to win, but if her brother died she didn’t know what else to do except die as well, so she cut her hair (Mulan moment) and took his ID

The real Marty Wyman was sick when he signed up, and died shortly after the walk started, never seeing his sister walk for him

She walks silently, never talking to anyone because she doesnt want them to hear her voice and blow her cover

The Wymans are colombian/iranian mixed and from Pennsylvania, their parents own a shop and live above it

to preface this, because i do worry, i am half mexican, so some of this IS me projecting people i know and my own experiences

he is 19 years old

grew up in jémez pueblo, new mexico

he has a high school sweetheart named lucina elena

his family owns a wheat farm

he's been helping with the farm since he was a kid and as he got older his back started hurting more and more but he toughens it out

he's great at soccer, but he LOVES football

he's the shortest of his brothers

5'5" to be exact

he got his height from his mama and she wishes he got more from her

he's the oldest of his brothers so he's supposed to be the secondary man of the house, but since he's so short, his younger brother (the second oldest named maricio) took the spot

chose to go by "steve" during the walk that way he would experience less racism in case it happened

since he's often called "not manly enough" he signed up for the walk to PROVE he was a man but the minute he got his acceptance letter he started freaking out

his hat is actually his dad's

his dad gave it to him before the bus pulled up

and before stefan got on, his dad pulled him into a tight hug and told him how proud he was of him and how much he loved him

it's the only time stefan saw his dad get teary eyed

his dad doesn't show his emotions a lot, but this is part of how his dad shares his love: through his work

his mama used to sing this to him as a kid and when he was on the walk, he would say it often, always under his breath

he LOOOOVES dancing!!!!!!!

he has special cowboy boots for when he goes out!!!

he spent a lot of money on them, but he saved for a while

his wish would have been for his family's farm to actually be their own again, instead of the state's
