Evening Glory at Deadvlei by Wei, Willa Deadvlei is a white clay pan dotted with the skeletal remains of centuries-old camel thorn trees. Its name means “dead marsh”. Deadvlei has been claimed to be surrounded by the highest sand dunes in the world, the highest reaching 300–400 meters. The skeletons of the trees, which are believed to have died 600–700 years ago, are now black because the intense sun has scorched them. Though not petrified, the wood does not decompose because it is so dry. In order to take this photo, my friends and I, three of us worked together. We left our cameras in the field at night and each camera covered one angle of the view. Then we merged the three shots to make a panoramic view. Our plan was to make a timelapse vedio. However, three cameras were not able to have enough overlapses, photoshop couldn't merge the panos with consistant foregrounds. So, we just made some of photos like this one.
