I am the bat. I recreated my favorite (and coziest) Halloween costume of all time this year. You can’t really tell from the photo but my mom made bat wings in the armpits of that sweater and flapping my arms around the playground was the coolest I’ve ever felt! It was kind of hot to wear through storytime though.

Happy Halloween! And sorry John Mayer. Here’s a silly poem I wrote and finally got around to setting to music.

A few weeks ago I recorded a song for my wife for her birthday. The lyrics were inspired by a children’s book I had just found called “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg & Jacqueline Chwast (that’s their art in the video). I’ve known my wife since I was fifteen so I liked the idea of writing a song that was as equally applicable to two teenage friends as it was to two married olds like us. So I recorded it and surprised her with it on her birthday. This ended up being a pretty big misstep on my part. What I thought was a pretty dumb and embarrassing song ended up sending my wife into a heavy crying fit that I spent the rest of the night trying to undo by saying things like “It’s just a dumb song! It’s stupid! You should be making fun of me for writing such a piece of crap!” etc etc. Anyway here’s the song that sort of ruined my wife’s birthday. I hope most people’s reaction to it will be somewhere between her uncontrollable crying and my complete dismissal of it.

I have not seen the new John Wick movie yet but I dreamed that this is the song that plays over the credits. I guess if it comes true I’ll be pretty surprised!

I have less inhibitions in my dreams. I cry more, I fight more, and I toss water bottles at televangelist’s dicks more.

Jes dreamed that I was smooching on her in her sleep. I swear this is not a thing I do!

This was my first dream of 2019, in which my roommates (?) pressure me to dress up like obscure marvel villain Kang the Conqueror (worth a google!) This is where it gets embarrassing to share how much old school marvel trivia is kicking around my subconscious. Was Kang the one who made Captain Marvel give birth to her own husband? I can’t remember and don’t want to.

Here are my drawings from #hourlycomicday. There's something really liberating about these crazy time crunch comics. Actually now that I think about it, hourly comic day is what lured me back into drawing a few years ago. I recommend it!
