Ben went into the room and sat on his bed, pulling his hood down. "I think I won? They took off when a teacher started coming over so I'd call that a forfeit."
Ben looked in his mirror to see how bad it looked, "they were making fun of Esther and I told 'em to knock it off. They tried to intimidate me and I just threw a punch wanting to shut them up." He was a protective older sibling, he knew she could handle herself but if people were mocking her behind her back, he was going to defend her.

[ seeing his nephew beaten and bruised tugs the heartstrings, but what's more is the memory of doing the same thing for his own sister. at his age, he wasn't as good with his words, instead acting out to resolve issues. it isn't something he looks back on with pride, per - say ā¦ but the selflessness is what matters! ]

abaddon climbs down and trots after nathan. his little legs working to keep up ā one of the many annoyances of this vessel, everything is so small and frail. it does, however, respond to sugar ; something abaddon had learned when nathan gave him a fizzed drink called soda ( and of course, the iced cream ). thus the idea of these little pieces of sugar is certainly enticing.
abaddon climbs onto a chair and stands, overlooking the now clean kitchen; briefly disappointed until he recalls that he had hoarded some of the leftover nugget remnants beneath the sink for later.
idly, he taps his fingers along the back of the chair, watching nathan move through the kitchen. āi am intriguedā¦ i wish to try these sprinkles!ā
[ as he reaches for two bowls, Nathan considers making a remark about Abaddon needing his help because of his height -- but discards it. that's insensitive! and he does like to help. ]
ā I got'cha, bud! ā [ preparing their ice cream at the counter, he meets with him at the table to let him supervise tapping on the topping. it's such a silly, small thing to introduce, but that's what's fun about it! ]
ā It's called that because you just sprinkle it on! And that's all there is to it. Makes it a little more fun with the colors, too. Let me know what you think ..! ā
I should have told you. I told myself I was protecting you, but that was only part of it. I was ashamed I wasn't there when you needed me, but I've tried to be there every day since.
Ben tensed a bit when he realized he was caught before finally looking up to Nathan so his face could be seen. He had a black eye and bruised cheeks from taking a few punches.
"I.. I got in a fight.. it wasn't really the bullying this time.." he admits softly, "please don't tell mom..? She's already so stressed out, I don't want her worrying about me more than she already does.."
ā Of course not ; not the first time I kept something from your mom. ā
[ voice is kept to almost a whisper, and he nods his head toward the room before phasing through himself. Nathan would easily keep the secret from Kathy, but he couldn't in good conscience keep it from himself. ]
ā So, what happened? Did you win? -- Sorry if you didn't, I won't love you any less. āĀ
the good stuff. the iced cream certainly is pleasing. abaddon enjoys the texture of it, but mostly the sharp pain in his temple when he eats it too quickly ; which he often does despite being warned of the consequences.
abaddon sits up as nathan stands, watching the smile on his face. it is a more familiar and pleasant sight than the daze he occasionally finds nathan in.
why abaddon feels compelled to care for nathan, he knows not ; only that he does. humans are fickle & so many have treated him with endless cruelty ( all retaliated in the end ). nathan had been kind since the beginning.
abaddonās head cants to the side, curious. āexplain these sprinkles. is thisā¦ like the iced cream?ā
ā Nope, they're a topping for the ice cream! They're little pieces of sugar that're meant to be sprinkled on top. Not a huge difference, but adds a little something - something. ā
[ he gestures for him to follow along to the kitchen, where he expected to find the ' bloody, ' eviscerated remains of their dino nugget dinner ( huge success, to Nathan's delight! ) he had been stalling cleaning.Ā -- but it was as if it never happened. brows furrow, then relax, and he shakes his head as he approaches the fridge. ]
ā These guys, I'm telling ya ... Thank you ..! ā [ he calls out to the unknown, ghostly do - gooder. they likely knew the mess would stay for days, if it were up to these two. ]

He finds Nathan where he typically does at this time of night; sitting in the large armchair watching the box of trapped souls. A worthy habit, indeed. Abaddon claws the chair and climbs up the back until he is situated at the top, his little legs folded beneath him. He leans over Nathan, dark unruly hair falling, fully blocking the view of the box, and grumbles.
āI wish for the iced cream.ā
Abaddon could, if he truly wished it, retrieve the dessert himself; however he has noticed that Nathan seems to enjoy when a task is required of him. It is odd, but Nathan has been a worthy companion thus far. Abaddon could at the very least give him a task to do.
[ despite the actors on screen, the boy's hair severs a static between Nathan and the television. he blinks hard, as if coming out of a daze, before looking up at his little friend.
caring for Abaddon is good for him. it's nice to feel needed ; though, even Nathan is sure that an immortal demon in the body of a child can surely get his own ice cream out of the freezer. it's nice to feel wanted ..! ]
ā I got you hooked on the good stuff, huh? I guess it is a good time for dessert. āĀ
[ the stern, upside - down face above him brings a light to his own demeanor. cheesing a grin in return, Nathan slaps the arms of his chair as he heaves to a stand. ]

Ben chuckles a bit at his uncle's antics, before a moment of panic when asked what subject so Nathan could help, "it's algebra?" He hoped that was one he found boring or would give him some time.
Ben reaches to open his bedroom door, the sleeve of his hoodie riding up a bit when he moves and showing a bruising handprint on his wrist.
