She hardly considered an attempt to help someone--fruitless or not--a waste of energy, but they seemed determined to see it that way and furthering the argument about it could bring them more distress. So she let it go for now.
But it was clear that she was intrigued by what she was being told. Her fingers curled against her lips for a moment, a soft hum leaving her as she considered it before snapping her fingers.
"...Like a puzzle game of sorts? Without a set code?"
...That was probably not how most people would describe such a thing, but she wasn't entirely good at thinking how most people would.
"More like a trap, though sometimes it could be a test," Wren clarified, "typically the Feywild will trick people into it, adventurers, unwitting travelers, the less experience a person has with the fey, the better for the fey... but if someone can reach the Feywild on their own and escape with everything they came in with, then they are someone to keep an eye on, a potential threat against the realm, or perhaps a future hero if it should come to that,"
Wren sighed softly, "some humans decided that they could use their skills to create a tourist attraction, that is how the circus came to be, they abuse the rules of my kind to stay alive, they are the more dangerous ones... they share the knowledge they gather to keep their circus going and to trap and abuse creatures of fey for their benefit while employing hunters to guide people through the realm or killing any who give them trouble,"

"Would the sunglasses help?" Sam questioned, "it seems like some magic thing where it would always be bright or noticeable,"
She's looking through the box of things people have left behind at the store, remembering she saw some sunglasses a while back that no one claimed, curious if they would work for him.
"I fukin' wish, pro'ly not though." Harry said with a frustrated huff, when she stopped looking through the box he moved and drapped his arms over her shoulders from behind. It wasn't exactly new, he did this with plenty of people he felt comfortable with. The way he turned his head and hid his eyes in her hair was though.
Hiding his eyes seemed lie the only way to get the power to 'stop', and with how touch regulated him? Hiding his eyes like this helped when the lights got to much and started over simulating him. "But not lookin' at anythin' works pretty well."
She glanced over as he hid his face in her hair, gently leaning her head against him as she kept searching the box. She was tempted to offer her beanie for him to hide his eyes under if he needed it for a bit, she was protective of the hat since it was her dad's signature item.
"We could try these..." she had found an old pair shaped like stars that one of Magnifico's kids left behind, they had a bit of wear, the frames were cracked, but it would help them test if it did help soothe him at all.
"Just as a test, if it does help then we can find something more your style,"

She tensed for a moment, taking a second to calm herself as she felt herself getting angry at his statement. She put down the file and looked at him, "I know you are upset and angry at me and her, you are right to feel that way, but you are ambushing me in public about this, I am being vague to prevent anyone who may walk in from having more context that I can't explain away. I'm also hoping no one has to look at the camera feed for this room today for whatever reason. If you want me to speak bluntly, then we need to do so privately, outside of work."
"I've seen her do that." He admitted. He let his own silence hang in the air before straightening up. "This is a lot to chew." He ran a hand through his hair. "Thanks... And sorry I sprung it on you at work. It was a bit stupid if anyone was eavesdropping."
"I know it is, and you don't have to hurry about deciding what to do about it... I know you just needed to talk about it, I was annoyed at first and I had to remind myself that I had a pretty similar reaction.. I probably would have done something similar if I had anyone to talk to about it when I found out..." she knew there were still lies being told, he didn't know about Eldridge, and she worried if that came out later after he decided if he would stay with Cass or not, he would be furious it was hidden as well. She should talk to Eldridge about what they should do on that front.
It was a complicated matter--especially given how fragile she was. A weapon perhaps, but a living breathing one with feelings and thoughts and the ability to be hurt.
...And clearly extremely brainwashed as well. This was one reason why he despised war. The victims weren't always just the ones shot at and killed. No one thought about the kids, the horrors, the families displaced, the traumatized people that had to walk around afterward like they hadn't witnessed horrors that aged them far beyond what it should have.
"Still not yer fault," and he wasn't trying to be cruel, but rather--she needed to understand. "....Yer not responsible for savin' everyone. All we can do is try to make sure as little of them get hurt as possible, but that doesn't mean you have to hold all o' that on yer shoulders and get hurt in their place."
The hand on her head was gentle as he attempted to pet her hair down to soothe her. He wished he didn't have to explain this to a child. This was a concept people who lived hundreds of years still struggled to process.
You couldn't possibly save everyone, no matter how hard you wished you could. That she cared enough about trying said more about her own heart than it did about anyone else. For her to be this kind at a young age like this when people were still developing empathy--especially after everything that had happened...
She flinched at first when his hand on her head moved, though she quickly relaxed, reminding herself that he was helping, not hurting. Ilia wanted to believe him, but it was hard when she was told so often how it was her fault, even if it was a bad person saying it, she was conditioned to believe what she was told, not question it.
Her thoughts were broken by the sound of banging on the door to the TARDIS, the men that worked for the lab had found it and assumed she tried to hide inside,
"Come out Asset, we know you're in there and you won't like if we have to come in. Crews would rather have you back in one piece," one man's voice spoke. She was tense and her eyes teared up again in panic as she was found so easily.
"Would the sunglasses help?" Sam questioned, "it seems like some magic thing where it would always be bright or noticeable,"
She's looking through the box of things people have left behind at the store, remembering she saw some sunglasses a while back that no one claimed, curious if they would work for him.
"A sweet treat huh? You humans sure do love shoving things in your various face holes. I'm sure I could find her something to eat." The demon turned and floated away, one arm folded behind them as they thought.
"Yeah! This'll endear me to the kids and prove I'm not a danger to society for sure!"
"Have you never had candy? It's the best! Why wouldn't we like it?" Yume tilted her head looking up at them.
"Is it bad to be a danger to society?" She'd been called that before, among other things. She still didn't see her villain work as bad, she only stopped cause if she didn't they would take her away from papa again.
"My parents were kinda sticklers about sweets and candy. I had a specific weight and figure to maintain as Prince of Euclydia. It's all super tragic and there's lots of bad stuff I could tell you but you're a baby so you don't need to hear about it and also you wouldn't understand."
"But....No I haven't had candy. For various reasons sugar has not been a part of my diet pretty much ever." The demon tapped their fingers together and hummed "Well I don't think it's a bad thing, being a danger to society, but I'm on probation and I gotta prove I'm good if I want time off my sentence soooo....y'know....Gotta do nice things. Like spend time with kids or whatever." Bill no that's not how that works--
"They made me clean parks and beaches to help the community with my papa, it was boring," she pouts a bit, "communion service was what they called it!" that is not what that word was but she's trying.
"The fun uncle? Like you take him to disneyland and buy him the latest GTA that he's too young to play?" She's teasing a bit about that. She doesn't really know family dynamics outside of sitcoms since she's been mostly on her own.
Gabriel was thinking for a moment as he tried to consider what was being said.
❝ Well I could do all that too, but I let him have sugar when he is not supposed to and all that stuff and allow pranks. Sammich very much draws an issue when I let him have sugar before dinner or any other time that is deemed not a good time.❞ he shrugged. He knew Sam was a health nut so he hardly ever paid that much mind.
She chuckles at that, that was so low stakes, "why does he care if Jack has sugar? Does he get super hyper or something? My grace filters out all sorts of "fun" stuff, I haven't been able to get drunk or high even caffeine doesn't affect me, but I know my dad being a powerful healer might be the reason for that,"

Evan sat down in the car and listened to her. He understood theoretically why she didn't tell him, but he still wrestled with it. "What about the people who lost their friends or families?" He asked after a long pause. "They don't get to rebuild their lives. How can you live with that?"
"That's what I had trouble accepting as well... it still bothers me to think about, but Cassidy was a child who was failed by everyone, and she fell back into the only thing she knew, and she's choosing to stop and be better... that means more to me than when an adult who has always known better and has had help, does that for fun," she paused, trying to decide if it was worth sharing.
"My daughter was murdered.... she was five years old... we.. never found her body... we thought she was kidnapped but then... things lined up with the man who did it. He died and evidence came out of the other bodies he had hidden, the timeline matches, so we had to accept that she is dead... it destroyed me. He escaped justice. He felt no remorse for those kids... So I know how the victims family's feel. I also know that Cassidy at least tries to feel bad about the lives she took... She's stopped and is trying to be better. If she showed no remorse at all I would be more upset and willing to turn her in. It's complicated and it's weird and I get it. I'm sorry I didn't tell you... and I wish I could explain it better but I don't know how..."
Hearing her say her piece about her daughter did make him feel better with what he was wrestling with. The guilty weight was lifted slightly and he sighed as he leaned forward and rested his forearms on his knees. "It's fine, I get it." He assured her finally. "I wasn't planning to turn her in." He admitted. "I just... Needed more perspective and insight."
He looked over at her. "Still pretty fucked." He said, bluntly. "But I guess I am too since I'm considering giving this a chance."
"It's up to you, you need to decide if you feel safe, if you can trust her, if you can look past it. It's not going to be easy, and she's got a lot of emotions trying to keep herself from burning buildings or hurting people again, she's not really able to see a therapist to get the help she should have as a child, she's only got Eldridge and myself to help when the voices get loud," and she doesn't really want Gwen to see her like that if she can avoid it, though she's calmed down over time about Gwen being around,
"She gets scared, she cries, she shuts down, her head attacks her for stopping. It's intense and that's something to consider that she might try to hide how she struggles with it to keep from worrying you, or she might look to you for support. The most she can do to soothe herself and her urges, is burn herself with her lighter.."

He knew should have waited but he'd been impatient to bring it up. Evan sighed and didn't look over to meet her gaze. "You're right." He acquiesced. "Things got quiet and just- you know; made it hard to keep out of the back of my head anymore."
"I understand. I promise we will talk about this later. You can meet me after work at my car, we can speak there about it, okay?" They could sit inside and no one would be able to snoop and they could say what they needed to.
Evan nodded at that. "I should get back to work, I'll see you." He said, finally as he took his clipboard and moved along to go check on one of his patients.
Later on, he met her outside her car. By some miracle, he managed to get there first. "Hey." He greeted as she approached.
Gwen didn't see him around when she got off work so she was going to wait by her car, only to see him standing there already. She clicked her keys to open up so they could sit inside,
"hey," she greeted, "we can sit inside and talk properly without prying ears," she opened her door to get in, waiting for him to close his door before they spoke.
"Evan, I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I choose to believe that she's trying to move past it. Arson is easier for me to accept pyromania is a mental illness and she had no help, but the murder was harder to process. She claims she didn't go out of her way kill people, it was just whoever got stuck in the buildings she burned, which doesn't make it okay and she knows that. It wasn't my story to tell because if she is genuinely trying to rebuild her life, then I can't risk telling people and not knowing if they'll turn her in and ruin that for her."

She's genuinely fighting herself to not hurt anyone anymore and while I'm not okay with what she did, I think she is genuinely done and wants to be better.."
"Does it make you feel guilty?" Evan asked, looking over at her. "Or does it make it easier to chew by using soft words like "hurt" and "what she did" instead of calling it what it actually is?"

It was unfortunately busy for part of the day. Not dangerously so, but there was a nasty flu that seemed to hit everyone at once. They all had their hands full; so there wasn't a lull in the first half of the day. Maybe he should have waited until they had much more breathing room, but when things had quieted down; and there was a moment of reprieve, Evan spoke to Gwen where he didn't think anyone else would hear. "So, you forgot that part about murder and serial arsonry." He said, suddenly.
Gwen was startled by Evan's statement, she knew Cass came clean about her situation, but she didn't expect to talk about it while she was organizing charts.
"It... was a lot to swallow when I learned, but I decided to believe she stopped... and if I told you directly when you first met her you probably would have turned her in or not believed me." She reasons, "I did try to warn you when I said she was intense... but ultimately it wasn't my thing to share with anyone.."
"Intense... is an understatement." He replied. He took a deep breath and side. "It's not your thing to share..." He trailed off. "What made you come to peace with that? Knowing what she did?"
"....I think it's the fact she was so young when it all started... she was a child that was failed by so many people and never given a proper chance to learn to be better... "That's good, it's important to have good people in your corner that know everything, he'll have more support that way," Talia only recently had someone new in her corner that she could tell everything to. Pete and Kathy were human and didn't need that stress and the realization demons and everything were real. Iris was human but she could see the supernatural naturally, or at least ghosts, though she saw an aura of Talia's grace, maybe there was more to her ability they didn't know yet.
Gabriel did care about his family and even those who were nephilm. He did like being an uncle. Even if he wasnt the best influence and liked to cause a bit of trouble. But he supposed at least he was the fun uncle. He knew he was still often giving Jack sugar when Sam had told him no. ❝ Well I dont mind helping out, and at least I am the fun uncle.❞ he chuckled. He hoped at least he was seen as the fun uncle.
"The fun uncle? Like you take him to disneyland and buy him the latest GTA that he's too young to play?" She's teasing a bit about that. She doesn't really know family dynamics outside of sitcoms since she's been mostly on her own.
