the only words in that sentence he heard were “hungry” and “edible”
Okay this is an interesting observation because these conversations are significantly different in Japanese iirc.
When I get off of work I can make some posts about it comparing them.
Without fail, every time a woman is talking about how she does not want to have children and never wants to be pregnant and how medical professionals, romantic interests and family members keep trying to bulldoze her decision and keep expecting her to change her mind because motherhood is something that is expected of all women and it is abhorrent to think a woman could not desire it, a random mother spawns in the comments to be like “Well, actually, you never know! I didn’t want children and then I got pregnant and I realized I love being a mama and I have five little babies now! Could happen to you! 🥰”
Sister, keep that to yourself or make your own goddamn post, you are ignoring that woman’s central concern and belittling her, you don’t even think you’re doing it. Formerly childfree women who ended up having children and loving it are like detransitioners in the sense that there is nothing inherently wrong with changing your mind about having children or realizing you were mistaken about your gender identity but immediately weaponizing your indecision to tell people that the barriers to healthcare and the violations of their bodily autonomy and the way society ignores that person’s wishes is actually okay because you were wrong. Some people do know themselves.
it also makes me doubt how happy they actually are with having the kids why do you feel the need to broadcast you've changed your mind and are happy now just be happy no need to be a missionary for making more babies those are not yours chill
My students are so nice. They’ve been asking me if I’ve eaten lunch yet. No. The answer is no.
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s

As far as I know, Puyo Puyo Tetris is one of a few games in the series to actually receive a proper English localization. I could go into a whole lot more detail about the intricacies of that specific game's localization another day. For today's purposes, you know how typically Japanese games end up getting toned down for their western release?
Well, okay, so, throughout the series, there's a recurring character, Schezo, whose main gimmick is that he's hopelessly ineloquent to the point where he mangles his words into accidental innuendos. This results in other characters labeling him as a "pervert" in Japanese, which is naturally toned down to "creeper" in English.
However, as for the innuendos themselves, in Japanese they're a lot more mundane and less common than you might expect. It's also just the same three jokes of "I want you... I mean your power," "I'll help myself to you," and "give yourself to me" repeated over and over. At least, that's as much as I've observed thus far.
But in English, his jokes are surprisingly more common, more varied, and even more blatant. This actually might be the first time I've ever seen an English version of a Japanese game rewrite something to be more explicit than its original counterpart.
For the sake of not lengthening this post more than it already is, I've picked out the most extreme example of this phenomenon I could find. The context here is that Arle (the character on the left) successfully summons Schezo by calling for a "pervert," or "creeper," in the English version. He's naturally upset by this accusation, comes running over, and demands her to stop immediately. This is a very standard interaction between these two as far as I understand. Anyway, here Schezo's roughly saying "I won't forgive this... It's on!!" Or maybe it's more like "Face me in battle!!" Either way he's challenging to her to a Puyo battle to give her a piece of his mind.
Now let's compare this exact line to the English equivalent:
See, the original Japanese line didn't even have any kind of inappropriate joke. The English writers just added this in here for laughs and giggles. And this one line alone is infinitely more explicit than anything he says in Japanese. Almost all of Schezo's hysterical English lines are unique to that version. I could compare lines all day. It's truly fascinating.
It's uhh, really something that the ESRB probably would have crossed the line at "pervert" and yet they gave the okay to "assaulting this young girl" like, are you guys looking at this?? Lmao.
Anyway, again, I genuinely don't think I can think of another game in which the English version is somehow more explicit than the original Japanese.
Thanks to the folks who corrected me on some errors in the comments. If there’s anything else I got wrong, please let me know :)

Amazing moments in Dads: my friend’s dad’s critique of Frankenstein was, “I just don’t think the author had read science fiction before.”
What really intrigues me is how there's quite the English fanbase for Puyo Puyo despite the games barely having any English localizations.
The ultimate result is a good chunk of lore and characterization is garbled through a game of telephone.

" One of T-Rex's relatives, Tarbo boasts an extremely high Attack stat for an Air Type vivosaur. Keeping it in the AZ will prevent it from applying negative status effects to allies! "
