Back in 2024, I was studying in a different country and had a classmate who I was kind of forced to be around. This was the summer, during the 2024 Olympics.

During the Summer Olympics, a smear campaign was started against Olympic competitors Imane Khelif and Lin Yu- Ting. Both were accused of secretly being biological men competing against women for an advantage.

None of the lies spread were true.

However, that girl that I had to be around and I got into an argument about Khelif. She borderline screamed at me "THAT IS A MAN. JUST LOOK AT HIS FACE. HE LOOKS LIKE A MAN."

Importantly, Khelif is Algerian. And just because she didn't have European features - features which have been so conflated with 'femininity' - people assumed she couldn't be a woman.

You can't separate transmisogyny from racism.
