Regina glowered at the creature before her, hatred filling her for his resemblance to Daniel. Sorrow gripping her heart for the knowing that it was the man she refused to admit he was. And frustration towards herself for the fact that she would never be able to kill him, no matter how hard she tried. Her lips pressed together, turning her expression ugly and sour. What sort of question was that anyway? She did not know him. She didn’t care, she lied to herself.Â
He was not Daniel anymore, and it did not matter whether or not he could love.
For if he loved another, she would have the woman killed.
And she was as much a monster as he, unlovable as she was wicked.
Before an answer could form with enough tact to sate her pride, Regina inhaled sharply, finding his lips pressed against hers once more. A shudder escaped the queen as she stiffly stood, heart racing and fingers trembling.Â
                              He should be killed.
           He is a monster.
                       He is a lie.
      This is a lie.
Do not let him touch you.
                  Daniel is dead.
Regina’s eyes closed, thoughts pounding against her mind like sharp painful stones, battering her dizzy — or was that the heat from his kiss? Her lips parted without her consent, and then, she was kissing him back. It was if a dam had broken and nothing could hope to subdue the tidal wave of passion and raw emotion that flooded from her.
       She hated him.
                                     She loved him.
Her heart pounded so loudly that it made the ache in her head all the worse, but the heat that enveloped her was far more entrancing. Though he gripped her arms, she lifted her hands to place against his chest, laying there almost softly as she stood, taking her penance, and allowing this ghost of her heart’s making to steal the last vapors of her soul.
And for but a moment, she was Regina, sneaking behind the stables to see the boy who made her heart flutter and her stomach knot. Stealing kisses before her mother could see, and trying to hide the blushes and longing glances when anyone saw them near one another.
For a moment, she was free.
