(Section 6 is a WIP and will be "Irish", about the people of the Land of Shadow).

("Cornish" is translated here as ケルノウ訛り - "Kernow accent" - rather than コーンウォール訛り - "Cornwall accent" - because it follows the specific wording Miyazaki used in his interview with Famitsu. Kernow is the Cornish language name!) (Because they're a small minority group, there aren't actually many Cornish actors who exist, so the recording studio Liquid Violet directly reached out to native Cornish people and asked them to work on Elden Ring without auditioning. This is different from the casting process for the other characters, where audition tapes were sent in and Miyazaki chose who he liked best - Millicent's actress mentions Miyazaki paying close attention to her audition tapes in her interview in section 2.) (Godfrey's actor was also interviewed, but I included Boc's actor because he spoke more in-depth about the recording process. I already mentioned in a previous section that according to his actor, Godfrey only has a "hint" of Cornish, and that this was a deliberate choice. His Cornish lilt seems to become stronger after he kills Serosh, which makes sense.)

(Fun fact - the only Liurnian character not played by a natively Welsh actor is Latenna! Her actress, Jennifer English, is actually from Shropshire - an English county which directly borders Wales. It's usually considered part of the "Welsh Marshes")

(The Kalé are a Romani subgroup from Wales. His name isn't a coincidence - if the coding of the nomadic merchants with the importance they place on caravans isn't enough, they're literally called ジプシー (Gypsy) in the game files)

(Miyazaki does mention choosing Welsh for the Liurnians in the interview with Famitsu we looked at in the introduction. The other group he explicitly mentions by name is the West Country (Cornish) group, who we'll explore later).

(I really wish Mohg's actor had been interviewed - he was one of the few characters I couldn't get confirmation for. I believe he's doing Cockney (London) - that's what it sounds like, especially in cut dialogue. It would fit his background, and I could see Morgott masking his sewer accent to 'fit in' to the Golden Order's upper crust. (Which is actually something Godfrey canonically does! According to his actor, he has 'just a hint' of Cornish, and they had to experiment a few times to get this right. But that's for section 5.))

(Millicent's actress mentions changing the dialogue as they went along, which Boc's actor will talk more in-depth about in section 5 as well. Sometimes the actors will ask Miyazaki and his team directly - "this line isn't really natural sounding, can we change it?" - and adjustments can either be made or rejected)

(I'm not clear on how much English Miyazaki understands, but he pays attention to the exact pronunciation and repeatedly asked Millicent's actress to adjust the way she said certain words to match her audition. It's an impressive attention to detail, but it means recording even a few lines can take an extremely long time. Something which nearly every interviewed actor brings up!)

I've written my first ever fanfiction! A small exploration of Miquella and the continual trend of self-harm and self-destruction present in his story. Peppered with some small headcanons and seasoned with lies Miquella tells himself.

Summary:

"Miquella scans the miscellany of curatives, preservatives, and blood-filled vials around the room (eyes darting quickly past the mirror… he really ought to get rid of it). The bandages, the boluses, the unguents. None do anything for his sister’s pain, or address its root cause.

When he feels lost, it’s easy to become swallowed up by the enormity of it all. But the weight of the blade in his hand keeps him grounded. That familiar urge.

(or: before he waters the Haligtree with his blood, before he throws away his body, Miquella begins bloodletting for reasons he can't quite allow himself to think about.)"

I've spent the past six or so months putting together an extensive catalogue of inconsistent translations, and places where different Japanese words end up translated as the same word in English, in Elden Ring.

It's NOT a list of mistranslations or a critique - just parallels and associations that differ and could potentially lead Japanese and English-speaking players to make different conclusions about the worldbuilding.
