When I entered Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, I was hit with that cold, hospital-smelling air that felt so sanitized it was dirty. I approached the front desk and rocked back and forth on the balls of my feet nervously as I waited for the receptionist to look up from her paperwork long enough to notice me. She was an older woman whose name badge I couldn’t quite make out as the lettering was long since worn off. She looks up at me. 

“How can I help you, missy?” she asked in a thick southern accent, her tone somewhat impatient.

“Oh! My name is [F/N L/N], I’m starting work here today as a Nurse’s assistant. Do you know where I need to go?” I asked her, desperately hoping this interaction could end as soon as possible. 

Fuck, I sound stressed. They’re going to think I belong here as a patient if I keep this up.

Without responding to me initially, she looked something up on her computer. She was probably looking me up in the system. She looked back up slowly. “Right… you’ll need to go through the security check first. It’s over that way. Then you can follow the signs to the main nurse’s office,” She spoke to me like I was stupid. That condescending tone got on my nerves.

“Thank you, ma’am!” I enter the security check at the staff entrance where a man is waiting to check my bag. He didn’t hardly speak a word to me and made fast work of checking my bag. I wished more people were like that. I thanked him and walked through the doors to the hallway. A metal sign on the wall said that the nurse’s office is down the hall to my right. I checked the time on my watch and had to hurry towards the office when I realized I was running a little behind schedule.

The head nurse was a young woman with a small scar on her face and pink hair that definitely was not in dress code. I made a note to myself to ask her how she got away with it for my own future reference.

“You must be [F/N L/N], it’s so nice to meet you!” She got up and shook my hand excitedly. “I’m Nurse G, and I’m the head nurse here at Smith’s Grove.”

I smiled back at her. “It’s nice to meet you, Nurse G.”

“Let me just show you around the office real quick. Your desk is right next to mine, and at the bottom of it you’ll find a button that you can press if you feel unsafe at any point. It will alert the security guards. The medicine cabinet is over there. You are not to administer anything without my permission. And finally I should tell you, we do regular patient check-ups right around this time of year so I’ll need your assistance with those. The patient check-ups aren’t too hard, the paperwork really tells you everything you need to do.” She talked a little fast, but I could understand what she wanted me to do. 

She handed me a clipboard of patients to check up on with their room numbers listed on them and sent me off on my own. It was all moving way too fast for my taste but I had to put up with that because I really needed that paycheck. 

I flipped open the manilla folder Nurse G. had handed me and saw the top patient on my list was a man named Michael Myers. Without reading the rest of the file, I scanned it for his cell number and used the map printout tucked inside to figure out where he would be.

A few minutes and some confusing twists and turns through long, cold hallways later and I was standing right in front of his door. I hesitated. 

All you have to do is knock and open it. That’s it. Nothing more… yet.

I raised my hand up to the door and tapped my knuckles against it twice.

“I’m coming in Michael.”

Chapter Two - Nightmare on 13th Street ༄˖°.🍂.ೃ࿔*:･🎃

Have I lost my vision? Have I gone blind? Everything around me is impossibly dark. I’ve heard that when you close your eyes, you don’t even see pitch black. But this is most definitely the darkest blackness I’ve ever seen. Six loud gunshots ring out behind me and I take off running. Eventually I’ll run into something though, right? Wrong. I keep running for what feels like miles and never once do I feel the presence of anything beside me.

When you don’t know what direction you’re facing, it’s impossible to walk in a straight line. By now, I’ve probably turned to face the gunshots. I make what I think is a complete 180 but before I can walk I see something in front of me. It’s a light off in the distance. I guess there really is a light in the darkness of everybody’s life.

I walk towards it but it keeps getting further away. But whenever I blink, it gets closer. I stand still and shut my eyes and count to thirty. By the time I open them, I see what was glowing in front of me. There’s a jack-o-lantern, just like the ones I see on my walk home. Illuminated next to it is a large knife. 

My hand starts to twitch, moving towards the knife. I can’t control my motion and I’m scared of what I’m about to do. I grab the knife, holding it up into the air and stab it down into the jack-o-lantern.

I sat up quickly in my bed, sweat dripping down my forehead. I had no idea what the fuck just happened. I told myself it was just a weird lucid dream as I tried to catch my breath. I looked over at the clock to make sure I wasn’t late for work. It was only three in the morning. Still, I didn’t want to go back to sleep and I didn’t think I could if I tried. 

Once my shaking was under control, I got up and flicked through the TV channels again to see if I could distract myself with something until it was time for work. I settled on Night of the Living Dead.

I leaned back in my bed and tried to focus on the movie but found myself starting to get tired again. I closed my eyes for what felt like a minute or two and when they opened up again, the sun was shining through the window and the TV was playing something totally different. I turned it off and got dressed in my work clothes before heading off to my first day at the asylum. Yippee.

Chapter One - New Beginnings ༄˖°.🍂.ೃ࿔*:･🎃

Author's Note: Hello guys it's Ozzy!! I'm working on a full length fanfic over the summer before I go to college to study mortuary science! (And possibly get a PhD in psychology lolzz) I'm used to writing one-shots and headcanons so bear with me please. Hope you enjoy! I was walking home from the grocery store when the rich aroma of pumpkin pie wafted underneath my nose. Fuck, I really wanted some pie. Sadly the pitiful tote bag of groceries was filled with the bare essentials, just enough to get me through until my next paycheck …

Oh, shit. I had completely forgotten that I wouldn't be getting a “next paycheck” for a while. I had gotten fired at my last job for the shittiest reason. I hadn't done anything wrong. I was one of their best employees - at least that's what they had told me just a week before they had to let me go due to “budget cuts.”

I couldn't keep ruminating on my misfortune. I knew it wouldn't do me any good. Instead I turned my focus towards the beauty of Haddonfield around the Halloween season.

I set my groceries down on top of a short brick fence just long enough to slip on my headphones and turn on my music. I kept one headphone pushed back away from my ear just so I could hear the crunching of leaves underneath my black Doc Marten’s. It had just rained last night. The smell of precipitation mixed with the fragrance of the houses of people cooking autumn-themed desserts brought peace to my soul.

Halloween was always my favorite time of the year. Maybe it's just because of all the backhanded comments I'd get from old people assuming I'm the devil’s faithful little bitch just for dressing in black. Hearing someone jeer “Nice Halloween costume!” wasn't even funny the first time. 

As I got to the house I saw a little black cat curled up on my doorstep. A lot of people think black cats are bad luck and I've never liked that. I think if you want something to be a symbol of good luck, it will be. It hissed at me and ran off, something I took no offense to. I felt bad for the little guy and I made a mental reminder to set out some food just in case he comes back around.

When I got inside, I set my groceries down and trudged to my room just to flop down on the bed. None of my groceries needed to be refrigerated anyway. I grabbed my remote and flicked through the channels until I found one that was playing some good horror movies (it didn't take too long of course. After all, it was the middle of October). 

Bride of Frankenstein. A classic. It was always one of my favorites. It made me shed a tear as I watched the Creature’s longing for his bride. I couldn't help but wish someone would love me like that but gothic romance like that only exists in movies.

By the time the movie was over, the sky was pitch black. I was so ready to climb in bed and sleep through the night but before I do, I made sure to check my email to see if I've heard back from any of the jobs I applied to.

I scroll through what feels like an infinite amount of rejection emails and empty promises to get back to me soon when I spot one that makes my heart stop with excitement.

The email in question was from Smith's Grove Sanitarium for a position as a nurse’s assistant. It was an older mental hospital that I've heard housed some rather unruly criminals. 

Looking back on it, I vaguely remembered a story from when I was just a kid. I had just moved to Haddonfield when I was around 12 or 13 years old and was starting school a little late into the year- just a week after Halloween I believe. There was a story going around that someone at the school had murdered his family and was sent there. I didn't care much for that sort of gossip from people I didn't know and frankly they had no reason to let the new girl in on any of it so to this day I'm still pretty clueless about it.

Still, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the kid. Kids don't just kill their families because they feel like it. There likely was some sort of abuse going on in that situation that the kid was trying to escape.

In any case, I read through the email further and found that I'd be starting my job tomorrow. That's what I get when I don't keep up with my email. 

If it was my first day on the job I knew I needed to look presentable. I hopped in the shower and made sure to wash and shave everywhere. I picked out a black blade and pencil skirt with some pantyhose to wear in the morning and laid it out on my bed before going to sleep for the night.

Bubba Sawyer

Bubba loves all animals! Especially cute baby animals. I think given the nature of their housing, it'd be good to get some farm animals. I think Bubba would especially like chickens, but you'd have to help him be gentle with the animals. This boy gets cuteness aggression.

Thomas Hewitt

Thomas would also enjoy some farm animals, but he would prefer sturdier ones that can benefit the family in some way. Cows would be especially nice to him. I think he'd also appreciate having a big dog, maybe a German shepherd.

Nubbins Sawyer

Nubbins enjoys bringing you roadkill and telling you it's your new pet. He'll even "care for it" for the whole day to the point where you don't know if he's messing with you or if he's actually completely out of his mind.

Chop Top Sawyer

Chop Top is incapable of owning a normal pet. I think more than anything he wants an alligator. Hell he'd disappear for a few days out of nowhere and come home with an alligator. He knows you have a hard time saying no to him.

Michael Myers

Michael isn't very fond of animals. You remind him that he isn't very fond of people either but that he has a soft spot for you. You agree on one thing: a little black cat. Michael can't say no to a little piece of Halloween to have with you year-round

Jason Voorhees

Jason would be very happy to have a pet with you. He wanted pets growing up and didn't get to have any, so he'd be willing to get any pet you want. What he really wants though is a big dog that can help detect any people in his camp. You agree, as long as that dog can also be yours and Jason's cuddle buddy when it's cold at night.

Billy Lenz

I think Billy would like a lamb. I really don't have much to say this is vibes alone.

Harry Warden

I could also see Harry being a cat person. I think he would love to have a lot of kitties with you, especially little tuxedo cats.

Vincent Sinclair

Awww Vincent. I like to think he likes any animal that's soft and gentle. But I imagine he has a soft spot for birds especially. He's an artist after all and birds are works of art. I think he'd also appreciate beetles with fun colours exoskeletons. And if you got a pet, he's going to include them in his art of you of course.

How do you think Tommy Hewitt (Or Bubba, both are cuties) would respond to an autistic reader, specifically one that disassociates (even while mid-task/action), paces, self soothes by rocking and hits themselves on the forehead when stressed?

Author's Note: As an autistic adult who still hits herself and rocks to soothe herself this one hit close to home. And I've already imagined Leatherface comforting me when I'm having a meltdown 😭

Thomas Hewitt

Tommy's mental disability is less "severe" than Bubba on the outside but I think on the inside he still has issues.

Tommy's used to masking his problems so he can put his family first, so he may be confused at first why you would be so open with your struggles.

You probably would get some negative attention from Hoyt. He'd laugh to himself that he know has two autistic (or a less kind word) people in his house.

But I think this would be the moment Tommy stops seeing you two as different. You both struggle in very similar ways.

He's never been much of a gentle caretaker so to speak so he'd have a difficult time figuring out how to help you when you're disassociating. But I think he'd start giving you gentle reminders of where you are and what you're doing if you space out while helping with chores.

If you start pacing or hitting yourself it will probably scare him at first. He only sees that sort of emotion from his victims typically.

His first instinct would be to hold you back, after all hes been trained to do everything physically. But when that only makes you panic more, he learns to start helping by gentle things that calm you down wether it's holding pinkies with you or playing some music on the old record player in the living room

Bubba Sawyer

Bubba has a lot of meltdowns himself. He doesn't know what autism is, but what he does know is that you and him are very alike in many ways.

When you start pacing or hitting yourself, he starts getting stressed out and begins doing the same thing. But if you can explain to him that you need help he'll try his best to do so.

His first instinct would be to hug you as tightly as possible. If the compression helps you calm down, he'll be relieved. But if it works you up more then he'll frantically try to figure out something better.

He'll try to show you something familiar to both of you. Maybe it's his mask collection, his bone crafts, or even the flowers in the fields outside.

But he will keep you away from his brothers by all means necessary. He knows they'll just pick on you for acting like him and he doesn't want that.

Whenever you hear screaming coming from outside the house, you know Bubba is doing his daily "chores. You've largely gotten used to it by now but today something different happened. Bubba comes to you with a pink bag with a cute bow pattern. He practically shoves it into your arms and won't let you do anything else until you look inside. You open it up to find various makeup items. They're all lightly used but very high quality. "Aw Bubba, do you want me to put this on you?" You smile at him as he nods excitedly. "All right, pick out a mask and I can help you decorate it."

Much to your chagrin, the mask he used is covered in fresh blood. It likely belonged to the same person as the makeup did. But at least they'd get to rest easy in their own makeup right? He puts it on and you sit him down on the bed, positioned so the sun gives you the best lighting possible.

As you do his makeup, you explain to him the steps. You're not sure if he's even listening, but you know he finds the sound of your voice comforting.

"And.. all done!" You hold up a mirror for him to look in and he squeals excitedly.

I've seen a lot of people posting AI-generated art of Leatherface which completely baffles me. Did we watch the same movie? (I might be overestimating the intellegence of AI "artists"...)

When the travellers pick up the Hitchhiker, he brings up the fact that he and his brother (presumably Leatherface) used to work at the slaughterhouse. Franklin inquires about the new machine they were using to slaughter the cows, and the Hitchhiker insists that it's bad because it puts people out of jobs. It's quicker, cheaper, and requires less workers.

This is what AI art is doing to freelance artists. When people need drawings (references for OCs, logos for businesses, graphic design for blogs and websites, etc.), they turn to AI for the same reasons the slaughterhouse turned towards newer technology. It's free and it takes zero effort.

Let's look at this on an even deeper level. Leatherface (and his brother presumabley) are mentally disabled. For people like them, especially during that time period, it was hard to find workplaces that could accomodate for their disabilites, making it even more tragic that they were turned away from a job that was likely the only one around they could get.

You know what other field is dominated by people with mental and/or physical disablities? Freelance art. It's a job that can be done right from one's own bed, which is far easier for indivduals with social anxiety, limited mobility, or any other symptoms of their disabilities that could leave them stuck in their room all day. It doesn't require face-to-face interaction the same way any other job does. You can make your own hours and take off time whenever you are unable to work.

2; why the thesis? Genuine question still! I just often see people drag other people for their fanfiction, but I love how you wrote it!

(I personally think he does but not for the animalistic reason/breeding, more that he was brought up in a religious household therefore the "go forth and multiply" aspect was drilled into his head)

There is slight angst with a happy ending

Mostly I just wanted to infodump here because I've worked hard on this story... ཐི^. w.^ཋྀ

Also yes, my OC is based off of a very underrated character.

⛧ Lillith Gollum had been working at the mental hospital since she had graduated nursing school. She felt out of place amongst her coworkers. She was very kind, but she was looked down upon by the men in her workspace. They thought an insane asylum was no place for a woman, and they made that clear to her. Anytime she tried to complain about it to her friends, she would be brushed off. All they were doing was looking out for her safety, right?

⛧ Not only that but her pink hair and facial scar didn't help things either...

⛧ When she was moved over to Smith's Grove's Sanitarium, she had a hopeful outlook that things would turn around for her. And turn around they did when she discovered a curious patient by the name of Michael Myers.

⛧ She took a liking to him immediately. He was so quiet, unlike the men she was surrounded with in the break room. He never judged her for being in her position. Without realizing it, she began to play favorites.

⛧ She picked up on his love for making and wearing masks quite early. Unlike anyone else in the hospital, she wouldn't make him take the mask off to look at her. She would even sneak him paper and paints and glue when she knew he was running low on supplies.

⛧ While she was with him, she would tell him stories about her life or random pieces of trivia she picked up over the years. He was the only person that really listened to her.

⛧ She was obsessed with his hair and would find herself brushing through it while "doing routine lice checks" as she would say.

⛧ "You know Mikey, I don't think you're a monster like they say you are. You've been nicer to me than anyone else in this hospital."

⛧ Eventually she started to realize she had feelings for him. She felt horrible about it. After all, it was innapropriate for a nurse to have feelings for her patient. But she found herself going home every thinking about how strongly she loved him, wishing that he could be free to live with her.

⛧ She knew there was no way things would work between the two of them. Not only did she doubt he would ever want to pursue a relationship given how quiet and antisocial he was. But in the perfect world where he did, she knew she could lose her job over it. And if she quit her job for him, she wouldn't be allowed in to see him.

⛧ The best day of her life was when Michael broke free. He didn't attack her. He didn't try to scare her. He just looked at her, waiting to see how she would react.

⛧ "I guess you're a free man, now, huh Mikey? I imagine you'll be going your own way, but my doors are always open for my favorite patient."
