1 - Habiba from Tunis, Tunisia, said that any woman who wanted to be beautiful had tattoos, just the same way women enjoy makeup now.

2 - Aisha just outside of Tunis, Tunisia, said she received her tattoos after marriage to symbolize her womanhood.

3 - Halima, has tattoos that hold symbolic power for her and her family.

4 - Brika from Siliana, Tunisia, she said: "I have the stars and the moon on my cheeks, they're the most beautiful things my eyes have seen. I don't know how to read or write and I don't have any devices like you, but I know my land and my earth, the stars and moon help me navigate it. That's why I'm here".

5 - Yumna, some of her tattoos celebrate the various stages of a woman's life, protect her and her family from evil spirits, or pay homage to Fatima, the Prophet Muhammad's daughter. But most were simply to highlight and embrace the beauty and power of being a woman.
