Current song(s): I don’t really have a current song? But I will tell you that in late June I spent almost an entire nine-hour (+) flight listening to “Summer Rain” by Belinda Carlisle on repeat because it had a certain vibe I felt I needed to capture somehow for GSR. So I spent a lot of the flight thinking about how to turn that into a short fic. (I still need to write the fic.)
Currently reading: I have read about a chapter of each of the following books and currently have them with me, so I think that counts as currently reading:
Kurt Vonnegut, Breakfast of Champions;
Naomi Klein, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate;
Yoko Ogawa, The Memory Police; and
Jason Hickel, Less Is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World.
Currently watching: Old movies. A lot of old movies.
I used to watch a lot of movies (including old movies), and then for a decade or more I really didn’t. I watched a lot of TV shows, often on repeat. I think it’s an anxiety thing.
Then when I fell down this GSR rabbit hole a few years ago I eventually broke up my endless CSI rewatches by making my way through WP’s filmography. (I am still working on JF’s.) Then last fall, when Robert Redford died, I decided to watch some of his movies I hadn’t seen. Then I decided to watch (or rewatch) all of them.* I’d read the synopses first, to help with the anxiety. (Yeah, there’s a lot of anxiety in my life.) Over the Christmas holidays, I watched a lot of Hitchcock with my family, both rewatches and things I’d never seen before.
So now I’m just generally trying to rewatch all those classic movies I’d never actually gotten around to watching in the past. (Casablanca! Citizen Kane! And so on.) I’m trying to make my way through as many of the combined AFI top 100 movies as I can (as many as I can without too much expense, that is).** I’m trying to watch some more international movies (although I haven’t gotten very far with that). I’m watching whatever seems interesting.

Oh, yeah, I’m also on season 07 of my 12,000th (number approximate) CSI rewatch. This is pretty good timing, because I want to do a weekly CSIV episode rewatch for the fifth anniversary of the show. (It ended on a roller coaster, right? Also, would anyone like to join me?)
Oooh, oooh, also, I am not yet watching but really need to watch the final season of The Bear, before I get totally spoiled. I hope it’s good. Tell me it’s good.
Current obsessions: GSR. Also, Vienna.
I think the GSR part is pretty self-explanatory (and, you know, obvious). But I just got back from a month and a half in Europe, half of which was spent travelling and half of which was spent doing a course in alternative economics and sustainability. I’ve loved Vienna since my first trip there (over two decades ago, yikes), but I’m feeling extra obsessed right now. Can I tell you about the Vienna transit system? There are buses and trams and U-bahns and S-bahns and they generally come at least every ten minutes and you can get anywhere and it’s super affordable. Plus there are bike paths everywhere. Also, there really is a kebab stand on practically every corner. (Sorry, that was mostly unrelated to the transit.) It’s heavenly.
Currently working on: Figuring out what to do with the rest of my life? That’s a work in progress. Still. But, also, before I get to that short “Summer Rain” fic, I have an AU I have to write for the @ficwip 5k. I’ve worked on it a fair bit in my head, but I still need to get it into a form where other people can read it.

Favorite flower(s): I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a peony, but I think they’re really pretty.

*I made a few exceptions. I skipped the MCU movies because I just do not go there. I could not rewatch The Way We Were because, to me, it’s the saddest movie I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t watch The Great Gatsby because I’d just reread the book and immediately (i.e., after about two minutes max) felt it was going to mess with my perceptions of that.
**I refuse to watch Titanic.
