DAY 1

so we arrived at midday, hopped on the light rail (snazzy af) and went straight to the hotel to drop off bags. we ventured around the central area for a bit, nabbed a reindeer sausage (i made the mistake of not having lingonberry jam with the cripsy onions and mustard, the combo sounded confused to me but I STAND CORRECTED the norwegians are right. and the sausage was noice). hit up a bar for beers, then ended up on a hilltrain up to Fløyen with a very cool view of Bergen (and met a cashmere goat called Fløydis) 🍻

DAY 2

all about the fjords! i booked us a 4-hour trip to Mostraumen, which is north-east of Bergen (and the bottom right photo; the white building was once a school house!). it was heavily raining when we left port and i was freezing despite the layers, and i did briefly panic thinking 'i can't do this for 4 hours' (there was an indoor cabin but no free seats and, really, i wasn't going to sit inside and miss out on the views and fresh air!) but about 30 minutes in it cleared up and we had perfect weather – right up until we re-entering Bergen at the end of the trip! we spent our evening around Bryggen and sampling seafood at the fish market. i had my first oysters here and damn, so good!

DAY 3

well, we were going to go up Ulriken via cable car, which is another mountain around Bergen, but when we saw the weather and forecast (and also the cost of tickets, holy 💀) we decided... maybe not. Fløyen was wonderful so we'd had our view. instead we roamed and saw more of Bergen's streets. we also returned to Bryggen and its shops (they were all closed the day before), then stumbled into another bar, and took our day easy. more seafood for dinner, and then an evening of packing and trying to sleep, as we had a 4am start to get to the airport this morning 🛫
