so in 1655, amidst the Deluge, as the Commonwealth was steadily getting obliterated, some of the Lithuanian nobles signed the Treaty of Kėdainiai with the Swedes. This was in order to end their union with Poland, so that Sweden takes the Duchy of Lithuania under its protectorate instead
the agreement was short-lived and lasted less than a year. but i need you to know that is not even the funniest part of this event (check my reblog)
so apparently, the nobles gathered for this purpose in the Radziwiłł estate in Kedainiai. While solemn speeches were made, the old ceiling of the first floor could not bear the weight of so many people and broke, and all the people fell downstairs. Nobody was killed, some people were slightly injured, but all that was taken as a bad omen.
