pure individualism is a disease that kills communities, isolates individuals, and leads to things like the anti-vax movement.

you are not so important that you aren't bound by social responsibility and decency.

if you live in a society, you owe it to others to participate.

you are socially obligated to do things like defend human rights, offer others basic decency (unless they are actively harming society ie white nationalists, billionaires, etc), and assist those in need whenever possible. take care of yourself, yes, but not only yourself.

you will sometimes have to do things that you find inconvenient, annoying, or downright hard.

you will sometimes have to help a friend move, do extra chores when a housemate is sick, pick up a grieving coworker's slack, or support a family member who is struggling.

you are not the center of the universe. no one is.

No, it is not obvious that the statement "sometimes you absolutely ARE required to do things in life for the good of other people, even if you hate it" has nothing to do with bodily autonomy, because it is on its face a statement that is very often used by (specifically) anti-abortion activists to deny people who are pregnant the right to autonomy over their own physical body.

It is not "obvious by the "SOMETIMES" that i do not think people are obligated to do whatever is asked of them always."

hey there hetchdrive! i see you reblogged this with a bad faith and unflattering portrayal of me then blocked me almost instantly so i couldn't reply! pretty mean and weird! anyways, that's not remotely what happened!

i was stressed about going to a wedding for several reasons, including the fact that it was expensive AND i'm autistic and mentally ill and thus struggle deeply at large social events (it was over 200 people!). i'm also queer and knew some people in attendance would be deeply heteronormative, which can be really hard for me.

the person whose wedding it was is a family member who i love very much. he made it very clear i did NOT need to come, but i knew it would be really special to him if i attended, so i did! and he was so, so happy i came! he keeps sending me photos all these weeks later and talking about how much it meant to him.

i made a few posts on my personal blog expressing stress.

i don't even remember the details of the asks i got, but some people were kind of rude and basically said i should just shut up and not go if i didn't want to. i said "sometimes you absolutely ARE required to do things in life for the good of other people, even if you hate it."
