regrets and narratives are kind of like a square rectangle situation. all regrets are inherently narratives. they're stories we tell ourselves about how it could have been different 'if only i had.....'. in fact 'if only' is basically on par with 'once upon a time' in terms of story beginnings. narratives can exist outside of regrets, in that their forms can stretch beyond regrets, but you will still find the shape of regret inside them, like you can always find a square in a rectangle by drawing one line. this is why orv happens the way it does.

i said i'd catch up on side story a week or two ago but i'm still scared i won't like it :') not even because of how it addresses the main story epilogue but... ok i love this novel to death but the amount of times they used the word 'story' was already reaching my limit lol. and yeah it's unavoidable because that's what orv IS! but every now and then i think it gets so meta in a way that it loses me a little
