danger days animated tv show where every episode without fail Cherri Cola dies. characters react to it in the moment but the next episode he's back again and nobody raises any questions about it or acknowledges that he DIED, sometimes in front of them. a few seasons in somebody realizes that in split frames of Cherri's deaths there's this feathery bird-person with a hockey mask on in the background or nearby. usually within a couple frames of the split second in which he's shot with a killing blow or he hits the ground or he goes still. everybody’s like hey what the fuck. this is NEVER explained

taking off a mask to reveal what lies beneath as a romantic gesture is overdone, and besides i want to see the romantic or even platonic potential of protecting someone's identity beneath the mask, without any expectation of ever being allowed to see what's under it. picking it up and holding it gently to their face when it's knocked off and they're in danger of being exposed, without trying to catch a glimpse of what they "really" look like under there. throwing yourself in front of them to hide them from view while they put themselves back together without taking advantage or looking back to see what you're protecting. learning to read them by body language, tone of voice, and behaviour so well that you never need to see their face to feel like you know and understand them.

seeing posts like "wait... are people glad a danger days show isnt happening?" is so funny like we were all horrified when the first article dropped the possibility the danger days tag was hating even the concept of it. know your herstory.

Here's the thing I keep trying to articulate and possibly failing: I don't actually mind characters who are terrible people. I have enjoyed many. What I mind is characters who are terrible people while the narrative keeps trying to say that they are wonderful, often contradicting what the narrative shows us, with no self awareness

The problem is not the goodness or badness of the character, the problem is the extreme disconnect between telling (by the narrative, not other characters) and showing
