I know I havenāt really posted on tumblr in a long time, but Iāve been going through a lot of different things and changes that makes me want to try to have a fresh start. I privated all my side blogs for now, if I could I wish I could also private this one. I just feel like my online presence has been around since Iāve been a dumb kid, to a dumb teen, to a dumb young adult. I feel like Iāve learned a lot and want to move forward while being more mindful of things. I want to clean up this blog a ton, but I know thereās just loads of useful tools Iāve saved in here alongside cringey past-me posts.Ā
My brain power these days has a very low attention span, but I hope to do more clean up in my life and hopefully return to some sort of organized posting, but weāll see.Ā

All the āscientistsā that feel entitled to the mountain in the comments are killing me. Hawaii has natives. Itās their land. They should be able to do whatever they want with it. The āweāre doing this to help themā kind of rings familiar in a bad way, no? Iām sure thatās what they said back when America stole Hawaii š¤. We were just helping, right?
Physics major here.
Science is incredibly important.
Itās one of humanityās best frontiers.
It is our future, our savior from death & disease, our greatest endeavor, the culmination of all our efforts, one of our greatest prides as a species.
But it should never come at the cost of our humanity.
Just as you canāt do medical research on non-consenting patients, since you canāt hurt anyone no matter how much it would advance our collective knowledge, we should forbid construction on places which are sacred to people.
Science should never be grounded in the blood of our brethren or in their sorrows.
Imagine having to base your work on data that was taken by trampling other people.
I personally would not want anything to do with that.
My claims against building on grounds sacred to some people are not scientific, since science is a method of finding out empirical truths*, and has absolutely nothing to do with morality\ethics.
My claims arenāt coming from a religious place either, Iām an agnostic atheist & my view of religion is mostly a combination of wariness & pity.
My claims come from a humanistic place.
We shouldnāt hurt people for scientific advancement.
Science will get there eventually, with or without this observatory.
Why insist on doing this? Why should our path forward be stained with tears?
Astrophysics means the world to me, and because of this, I refuse to let it be tainted by this sort of behavior.
There will always be another mountain. If studying in this exact spot prevents you from being a decent person, pick another spot.
