Joyce Carol Oates absolutely eviscerating Musk.
“The poorest persons on twitter may have access to more beauty and meaning in life than the ‘most wealthy person in the world.’”

Listening to Hadestown for the first time and boy do I hope Orpheus and Eurydice live happily ever after!
Hadestown recently started an Australian run, and when Orpheus turned around someone in the back of the audience yelled "OH FUCK". Now the actors have to internally prepare for it because it keeps happening.
does anyone have that quote that goes something like 'white germans under the nazis lived just fine as long as they were loyal to the state, gave their children to the army, and paid their taxes, and in this sense many americans would be comfortable living under fascism' trying to find who said it but google is giving me jack shit
"The concentration camp was never the normal condition for the average gentile German. Unless one were Jewish, or poor and unemployed, or of active leftist persuasion or otherwise openly anti-Nazi, Germany from 1933 until well into the war was not a nightmarish place. All the “good Germans” had to do was obey the law, pay their taxes, give their sons to the army, avoid any sign of political heterodoxy, and look the other way when unions were busted and troublesome people disappeared. Since many “middle Americans” already obey the law, pay their taxes, give their sons to the army, are themselves distrustful of political heterodoxy, and applaud when unions are broken and troublesome people are disposed of, they probably could live without too much personal torment in a fascist state — some of them certainly seem eager to do so. "
- Michael Parenti, Fascism in a Pinstriped Suit
Behind the Bastards is history podcast and I highly recommend their two parter "How Nice, Normal People Made The Holocaust Possible" [youtube link for the first part]

once again indulging in my day dream of Spencer Crittenden GMing a D20 side quest
Brennan was recently a guest on Spencer's podcast [link here] and it was unbelievably sweet and i teared up several times. I fell in love with comedy actual play because of Spencer and Dimension 20 feels like the perfect version of that. Spencer so deserves a space that is supportive and warm, to GM for silly people who want to tell a grand story with him. the podcast episode ends with Spencer asking Brennan how Spencer can find community in his own life and Brennan just says "hey buddy you wanna come over and play D&D?"

The Australian Electoral Commission has subcontracted Starlink to provide auxiliary services during the upcoming federal election. If NBN services fail our voting data, though encrypted, will be running through Starlink satellites.
The same Starlink that was cut off in Ukraine at Elon Musk's whim to influence the outcome of their military operations against Russia.
Encryption doesn't mean shit if the message doesn't arrive.
If you're concerned about the possibilities of Elon Musk and his company being able to fuck with the transmission of our electoral data, you can contact the Minister for Communications here:

just sent a very polite but disapproving message, only took a little bit.
people in the reblogs want to complain about the lack of news source, but then don't add one themselves? so as per this gaurdian article here
The Australian Electoral Commission is planning on using Elon Musk’s Starlink services as back up for transmitting voting results information in the upcoming federal election. In a contract published late last year, the AEC appointed Telstra responsible for the agency’s fixed line and Starlink services until mid-2027, in a deal worth $1.38m. A spokesperson for the AEC confirmed Starlink could be used in the upcoming election for sensitive election data.
Besides the fact that nuclear energy will more than double Australia's energy prices and take 15+ years to build, there's also an inherent danger to it. Now pro-nuclear people will say it's NOT dangerous because of all the safety regulations in place and sure, that makes sense... assuming things don't change.
But you know what conservate governments like to do? Cut red tape. Campaign on the promise of less government "interference" by reducing regulations. They cut government spending. One way to make nuclear power cost less is less safety staff, less bureaucratic oversight, and less regulation on quality and standards - all of which make nuclear power more dangerous.
Nuclear becomes less safe under conservative governments. You really think after spending half a TRILLION dollars on nuclear power plants that the equivalent of Peter Dutton in 20 years time won't make political capital off trying to cut spending/red tape somewhere?
I wouldn't trust Peter Dutton with the safety of the nation if we had nuclear energy NOW, let alone whatever desperate demagogue rises to power decades from now.
It is a waste of money when renewable energy is already faster, cheaper, easier, and safer anyway. But conservative governments pose a real threat to the safety and lives of us in the present. I'd hate to give them the chance to do even worse and the potential for disaster if we gave them nuclear power to deregulate and turn into a political football.

nothing in life right now is quite as soothing to me as old tommy salami playing through GTA4 but all the NPC cars are going 999% speed.
