there’s something about poseidon showing up for sally.

luke tells percy that they burn what they’ll miss most so that gods will know that what they’re saying is important so they’re really listen.

but sally burns ice cream. ice cream that she has no attachment to. it’s not even baby percy’s ice cream. it’s just random leftover ice cream that she grabbed from a pile of dirty dishes.

the ice cream could not be more unimportant to sally. in the grand scheme of things, the ice cream is nothing.

but poseidon comes to her anyway. he shows up immediately after probably the most lackluster offering sally could give. he shows up anyway.

just…there’s something about poseidon showing up for sally.

do you ever think about the fact that sweetheart was only around 23 years old when the department sent them out alone to look into the shade prowling around the 2016 e&e games? and how that means they were likely a very smart and studious student (and also probably kind of isolated) who would've poured everything they had into graduating early to become the "accomplished Stealth and Department Investigator" they are in their first chronological appearance? and how milo is taken aback by the fact that they're out here hunting a shade down by themselves when they're so young? i dunno. i'm thinking about them a lot. milo said it best when he called them a "young hotshot investigator with something to prove" because even to this day, eight years later, they're still running themselves into the dirt trying to atlas-carry the weight of the department to help people

You know, one of the coolest things about the listener characters being silent on that, any or all of them could just be using asl. Hearing or vocal issues? Non verbal? Who knows. Go off and think about it.

Sunshine unable to hear after the car accident than nearly killed them.

Darlin unable to speak after the fight with Quinn damaged their throat.

Starlight, panicked over being trapped in hell, desperately trying to communicate and Avior having to slowly learn.
