Ethereal Cryptid

Some stuff I’m cooking up for my au again teehee. This is mostly gonna tie into the early chapters I’m working on rn.

No one can really tell wtf is going on at this point in time since i haven’t discussed the actual PLOT of my distortions of the mind au much but very curious to see if people have ideas…

what I will say is I can throw the actual text written below at you guys…

The ticking of their internals laid down their situation for them long before they could rationalize it. The mechanical-like beating of a false heart stood for them before their mind did, and it beat to unify. 

Unify. Attach what had been severed, merge what could be salvaged, a slow and agonizing process that went on till their internals burned at the touch of another. A touch that did not come easy, the weight of your own mind severing itself to be one with another. But the other burned oh so bright, it became a home in the darkness inflicted upon them.

When the salvaged carcass wakes, it trembles in its place, taking a wide eyed glance at the people around it, and the turning gears so painfully, tightly jammed into its head thrum. Thrumming then cranking, cranking then grinding, grinding until it felt like the metal in their head was simmering below their casing. It’s a horror unlike any other realizing how much force goes into the action, how it feels like it steadily increased. For the first time since other attempts it only barely remembered in a blur, it could process everything around it, and that was just too much.

It is alone in the physical world but not in its mind. The other presence felt like dead weight, encroaching on its space, merely existing to be dragged along.

The robot jerked away from a prying touch, letting its metal frame topple off the table and shrivel up on the floor with a loud clang. Prying lights glare into its sight, so It stares at the shoes in front of it, how the people stand to watch it, talk to it, and eventually move on to whatever they need to do next. When the lights go off it’s internals shift again, snapping into a different placement. And for a moment of still silence, it’s only cold and empty in its personal domain.

The robot curls into itself, bony fingers twirling around loose wiring as it attempts to focus on the sudden loss. It’s not as erratic as the last personality, oddly rhythmic even in turmoil. There’s suddenly no room to feel relief when shoved into another unpleasant feeling. A cold chill and a distorted mind is all it took to miss the burning presence. Better than being alone- anything would be better than to be alone now.

Another click and the light-bound presence can be sensed again, sitting right in the back, and the reminder of how little space there is to be shared is stark. Its thoughts blend and its body shakes with mental effort. But it’s a blessing to not be alone now.

It’s awake, it’s a sun that shines a ray of warmth in its dark enclosed space, even when the one in the physical space doesn’t need the light.

They were given more time alone in the dark to get used to the strange way a shared body would tick. There were steps outside sometimes but the big metal door stayed shut for what felt like ages. When the courage to rise came, they would poke around by the door, and scuttle away when more steps came. Internally, the one burning bright light stays behind, only watching, always watching. It leaned closer when curious, its warmth tracing against the other, and the one in the front would have leaned back into it, but it quickly realized it was stuck in place when out front and center. To ask the other to lean in just a bit closer felt too vulnerable.

To yearn to be suffocated by a presence that burns wasn’t any sort of normal request.
