Over our six-year run, we believed, among many things, that our team succeeded and failed together. We chose to never sign posts as individuals, instead taking collective ownership of our content. For our last post, weâre flipping the script.
In saying goodbye, we want to highlight the voices and experiences of the people who made HashtagNYU possible. These were the students who wrote tweets, snapped photos, shot videos, wrote posts, and so much more. We were the people behind the screen hoping to inform and delight you with each and every post.
To capture the experience, we asked our near-hundred alumni one simple question:
In 140 characters or less, what was HashtagNYU for you?

Ever downloaded your semester schedule on your phone, then stared at in confusion for minutes? Weâve been there. Albert building codes can be quite a tricky business â which is why weâve got you covered with these handy downloadable building code cards. NYU has a lot of classrooms locations, so weâve narrowed down to some of the largest, most frequented, or somewhat tricky buildings!
Itâs super simple! Each code card contains:
An image of the building, so you never have to check Google Earth
The building code from Albert and its corresponding name
The address, in case you need to map it
A list of its amenities (simply refer to the key!)
Download them here, and never be late to another class again!
Havenât read a book for fun since high school? Canât retain articles from your class? Use to love reading but then life got in the way? Here are some new NYU alumni books that may just bring back your love for reading.
The Amateurs by Sara ShepardÂ
Know Pretty Little Liars? Well, NYUâs very own Sara Shepard created it, and sheâs back with another hit! The Amateurs is a mystery thriller series about the disappearance of teenager Helena Kelly, which has left her family with no answers and no leads. If you love Buzzfeed Unsolved or Martinis and Murder, youâre in for a treat.
Marlena by Julie Buntin
Written by NYU alum Julie Buntin, Marlena is named a best book of 2017 by NPR, Publishers Weekly, Buzzfeed, Vogue, Esquire, and more! The novel tells a tale of love, addiction, and loss. Buntin describes it as âthe story of two girls and the feral year that will cost one her life, and define the otherâs for decades.â Cozy up and get ready for a long ride.
Surrender, New York by Caleb Carr
Another literary thriller, New York Times bestselling author and NYU alum Caleb Carr brings us Surrender, New York. Carr has previously brought us The Alienist in 1994, which has since become an American TV period drama. Surrender, New York is about a criminal psychologist and trade evidence expert become invested in a case of deaths and âthrowaway children.â If grisly murder novels and psychological thrillers interest you, this is the book for you.
Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar
NYU alum Jaroslav Kalfarâs Spaceman of Bohemia is a science fiction fantasy novel about Jakub Prochazka, Czechâs first astronaut. In an attempt to atone for his fatherâs sins as a Communist informer, he abandons his wife and travels to Venus. In space, he encounters the dangerous and the fantastic, such as a giant alien spider who becomes his companion. Interested to find out what happens in the great beyond?
The Half-Drowned King by Linnea Hartsuyker
Neither science fiction or fantasy, The Half-Drowned King is a historical fiction novel written by NYU alum Linnea Hartsuyker. Based on the true story of Ragnvald of Maer, the right-hand man of the first king of Norway, and his sister Svanhild, the story chronicles the birth of a Viking kingdom with some serious Game of Thrones and Outlander vibes. Itâs exciting, beautiful, and just plain mystical. Get a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa, because this will be a good one.
Stephen Florida by Gabe Habash
Wrestling is the name of the game. Stephen Florida, the title character of NYU alum Gabe Habashâs debut novel, is âone of the most unforgettable characters in recent American fictionâ (NPR). Florida is not just a college wrestler â heâs brash, audacious, charismatic, yet problematic. If you want a sports novel with a kick, this is the book to read.
There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyonce by Morgan Parker
There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyonce by NYU alum Morgan Parker is a collection of poems about identity. Morgan Parker goes into the nitty-gritty of what it means to be a black woman in contemporary American culture. Accolades include Time Magazine Best Paperback of 2017, NPR.orgâs Poetry to Pay Attention To, and A Publishers Weekly Pick of the Week. If youâre down for some powerful words, this book will surely feed your appetite.
Here are just a few of the cool places NYU students visited this semester! Bali, Sydney, Saudia Arabia, San Francisco, and more. Where will you be traveling to next? Make sure to share it with us! đ
Thereâs a lot of hustle and bustle in NYC. Looking back on your first day at NYU, you remember the scramble to gather all your supplies for classes. Now that itâs nearing the end of the year, youâve found the perfect packing method. Here are some of the inner workings of real NYU students!
The City Girl. New York City â full of chances, opportunities, and hope. Youâre always on the run to see new people and new things, all while looking très chic.
Pouches, pouches, and pouches. Whatâs in them? Just everything!
Sunglasses are a great way to hide your face from the paparazzi. Or that Welcome Week hookup that didnât work out so well.
A packed lunch saves money and tastes great. Cheers to that meal prep!Â
The Modern Engineer. STEM is life, but you donât let stereotypes define you.  Taking classes like Operating Systems and Aerodynamics doesnât contradict your wide range of sensibilities.Â
Tea can really give you a pick up when youâre having a tough day.
A hybrid tablet and stylus, so you can draw all those math equations when regular keyboards fail you.Â
Eyedrops for those late nights doing lab homework when your eyes just arenât having it.
An I <3 Consent pin, because sexual respect is whatâs up.
The Mom Friend. Life and the City can throw obstacles your way, so youâre always prepared. In short, youâre a purposeful hoarder â you probably wonât need everything youâre carrying, but who knows when an emergency will strike?
Extra chopsticks or utensils are great when you forget to grab some from the dining hall.
A hard drive can keep projects safe and compact, away from the horrors of computer failure.
Tylenol or Advil, because you never know whoâs going to be sick!Â
Deodorant is definitely needed when youâre running from Trader Joeâs to class.
Bohemian Vibes. Love, peace, and chill. Itâs a big world out there â no need to hurry.
A Good Book empowers you to learn new things. And with great power comes great responsibility.
Girl Scout Cookies feed the body and soul. đ
A Wallet keeps everything clean and compact. No need to weigh yourself down with loads of stuff!
Anya is live and ready to show you everything. Watch her strip, dance, and perform exclusive shows just for you. Interact in real-time and make your fantasies come true.

HashtagNYU was started six years ago to improve the way we communicate with students, to delight you and build a shared sense of community, and to share the NYU story, one photo, tweet, and video at a time. We had some Real Talk, we met incoming first-years through One Word. One World., we built Momentum, we started critical conversations on campus around Consent, and we shared a lot of GIFs.
Itâs been an incredible ride, and weâd like to announce that weâll be graduating from the social media game alongside the Class of 2018. Though our content will live on, our team is focusing on awesome new projects in our mission to improve the NYU student experience. Like countless seniors before us, weâre filled with wonderful memories as well as lots of feelings. Weâre so grateful to have taken this journey with all of you, and so excited for the work ahead of us â stay tuned in the coming weeks as we unveil our ~final thesis~, for starters!
You know we love to hear from you, so donât hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or comments! Weâll see you at Yankee Stadium as we celebrate our graduation together and cheer for new beginnings. đ #ForeverVioletÂ
Coming to NYU, you knew this school was famous. But did you know how famous it was? Here are some quality NYU Namedrops throughout television and movie history!
Weâve all had moments during our time here at NYU that made us want to scream. Be it good or bad, itâs certainly â one way to express how weâre feeling â but thereâs no shame because weâve all been there! Thatâs why we are taking the time today to recognize some iconic NYU-screaming moments.
When your acceptance letter for NYU comes in
We love to reminisce about that moment.
When you get your NYU tuition refund
We all feel a type of way when that bursar balance is positive.
When the NYU Bus is stuck in traffic
Thought youâd get to class on time? Thatâs cute.
When someone grabs your Tapingo
We just want to stay awake for the class weâre already late for. Is that so much to ask for?
When youâre put onto the waitlist for a class
Itâs always the Hunger Games out here when registration begins.
When your res hallâs laundry room washers are full
Apparently we arenât the only ones who thought doing laundry at 1AM on a Monday was a good idea.
When midterms season is over
Because honestly, exams are just a rough time.
When you find your sugar freshmen with them meal swipes
If itâs free, itâs for me!
When the elevators turn into an MTA subway during rush hour
Because how disrespectful it is for everyone else to have classes at the exact same time we are!
When the NYU Bookstore has a sale on sweaters
New York ainât warm, and NYU sweaters ainât cheap, so if the Bookstore is having a sale, then itâs truly meant to be!
So there you have it, some key moments of our NYU journey that make us want to SCREAM. And whether you have been there or not, youâre bound to experience all these big moods eventually. But we just want to know, what else here at NYU makes you scream?
