If you’re wondering if this is going to kill off Marvelous — no. It is not. However, having the big Chinese conglomerate mark your studio as an Underperformer to the point of pulling out of multimillion dollar investments? Not great! In a publicly traded, corporate profits-driven business world, this is a bit of a Big Deal.

What this currently means: Story of Seasons and Rune Factory get further scrutiny for their respective anniversaries. Their other development arms (arcade, animation, etc.) will also be investigated for performance. We will likely see more cuts to curb spending.

And ICYMI: The whole reason this is happening is because of AI, profiteering from the free works of others, and the live service model approach.

GoA is great but it is a spin-off game, it's very different from mainline Rune Factory in ways I don't think would necessarily work in a mainline title

like the relative lack of farming - it's cool to have a more streamlined experience but Rune Factory games are farming sims and that's not just a big part of the gameplay but also the world and story. caring for the earth and growing food for people is framed as something both humble and special, which is part of what makes eartmates such a big deal

they're mostly the same except some outfits simplification, more body types, details like freckles added, and hair colors and styles changes when characters were too similar. some of them had body paints that were ignored not from me thinking it's uncool but cause i colored them all the same day and was tired lol
