I feel a feeling and it's good!

Skye is insecure. This fact alone is not too hard for those who have played his route to realize! He makes it remarkably clear during his proposal (which I will touch on later). He begins to show it slightly earlier, though. One of Skye's dialogue lines that has infinitely captivated me is his orange heart pre-marriage line:

"I'm glad I came to Forget-Me-Not Valley. That's because I met you. You think I'm lying? I'm telling the truth. Why don't you believe me?"

This, as far as I can see, is the first time in the game where he begins to show you his insecurity. I'd also go as far as to say that this is when his flirting becomes genuine, and he becomes distraught when he's not taken seriously. Why would he be? He has spent the entire game up to this point flinging around empty flattery, I wouldn't be surprised if the farmer laughed in his face! But, this particular compliment is much different than what he's said in the past. Rather than complimenting your beauty in one way or another, he expresses a simple "I'm glad that I met you." This is kind of huge for him, and remarkably un-vain! So, it makes sense that he's practically begging you to believe him. It's a bit of a harsh call back down to earth, he has to come to terms with the fact that his shameless flirting has come with an actual consequence. "Why don't you believe me?" It's his own fault!

(As a slight aside; another astoundingly genuine compliment he will give you around this time is "Hehe. I think everyone around you is happy when you're happy. Your smile has an amazing power. Hehehe." Ugh.. stop giggling, you're being too cute... At some point I will replay to this point or attempt to go into the code in order to see exactly when he says this, but I'm fairly certain it's not until the orange or red heart is reached)

His proposal is where most see the brunt of his insecurity. If you try to give him the blue feather, even if you've met all the requirements, he will not accept it. Instead, he will say:

"It's a feather of love. I know you'll find a wonderful man."

It's not even a thought in his mind that the feather might be for him! And he may not even feel that he would be worthy of it, a "wonderful man" is someone else. This is further cemented by his actual proposal scene.

When you fall asleep with the feather in your inventory, you'll wake up to a note! "Tonight I'm going to steal your heart away” How romantic! ...or not? When he comes to steal the blue feather, he'll say:

"Hehe. Stealing the Blue Feather from maidens is my forte. …….Huh? You're really giving it to me? Thanks…… I'm used to girls confessing their love for me, but I don't know how to do it myself. I was so afraid that you might give your Blue Feather to somebody else. So I came here to steal it away from you. And now that you've given the Blue Feather by your own will, I'm just so elated."

Once you're married, his compliments will almost fully shift from what they once were. Where he used to focus on your looks, he is now more focused on letting you know how truly happy he is to be with you. "This is a nice place to live. I'm so happy living with you." ; "We're so happy together. I almost wish I could share this happiness." ; "Hehe. There is no wife as wonderful as you." (Don't worry, he'll still call you cute! "Hehe. You're cute when you blush, [Player]…")

His mindset coming into this theft was less "I'm going to make you mine" (which would still be concerning) but was more "If I can't have you, no one can!" He's shocked that they're giving the feather to him willingly! That ".......Huh?" is the only time we see him truly caught off guard by anything. Again, he truly did not believe that he had a real chance with you.

(another line that makes me feel like he doesn't think he deserves the farmer, is during the wedding. "I'm a no good thief, but will you love me for as long as you we shall both live?" as in... Will you love me in spite?)

This emphasis on happiness, while it does get kind of boring to read every day, is very important to Skye's deeper character! Though many players won't see him unhappy, because of course, that requires lowering his heart levels post-marriage! Don't worry, other people have done it for us! Let's take his dialogue heart-by-heart.

I listed a majority of his red-heart dialogue above, but for reference, his last two pieces of dialogue are as follows:

"Good morning, [Player]! My little angel." ; "Hehe. My love will never change."

He's happy, he's thriving, he loves you, you love him, all is well.

Going down to his orange heart, there isn't too much of a difference in his attitude.

"Good morning! [Player]... Hmm... It feels great, greeting you in the morning." ; "You're a hard worker. You shine when you're at work. Hehe. I'm proud of you."

He's still happy to tell you good morning, he's still giving you very sweet, personal compliments, an orange heart can happen to anyone! If you accidentally ignored him too long or gave him a weed or two, it's no problem.

Onto his yellow heart...

"Oh. Good morning... Urgh... I'm not a morning person... It's my low blood pressure." ; "Hehe. Compared to your beauty, jewels are but mere rocks. I tell no lies. I've gotten the most beautiful jewel in the world."

He's starting to have trouble getting up in the morning, he's not as excited to greet the day with you by his side... And he has low blood pressure? I would have appreciated knowing that piece of trivia sooner, but alright. Most glaringly, his compliments become artificial again, focused on your beauty. And once again, he feels the need to insist to you that he is not lying when he compliments you, as if perhaps that's why you've been so cold.

Down to the green heart...

"Ugh... I'm... really not a morning person." ; "Do you like being with me? Your expression makes me wonder. Maybe it's just my imagination."

Again, he is having even more trouble getting out of bed in the morning, he is not particularly excited to be awake, he does not greet you. He asks outright if you even still like him, but he's still holding onto a little hope..!

Finally, when you drop below a blue heart...

"Even if your love cools, mine will never change. I mean it. Believe me." (I am unsure if this stage has unique morning dialogue, but I think it's the same as the green heart)

Wow, this line is a lot! It calls back to his red heart dialogue, where he tells you his love for you will never change. He meant it, and he's really desperate for you to understand that!

When you drop below 5000 LP, Skye will confront you about how cold and distant you've been. When you fail to give a response, he will wax poetic about how time has stolen your love away. He tells you goodbye, and then leaves... But he comes back home after a few hours.

"... it was foolish of me to try to flee. I suppose… being a lone thief no longer holds the allure for me that it once did." (implying that he left to continue his life of crime, but ultimately failed and came crawling back to you)

Wow, you've stolen his lust for life and for thieving! You better give him a lot of curry to make him feel better, because divorce hasn't been invented yet!

To take all of this in a more theoretical direction for a moment, his deteriorating-heart dialogue makes me think that Skye was already depressed before he had the farmer, but perhaps doesn't really know it. He knows he's not a morning person, but he blames it on his blood sugar rather than his worsening mood. It all sort of make it seem like the farmer is really all he's got going in his life, and when even that is taken away from him, he can't even find it in himself to go back to the life he had before. Your relationship sure is healthy!
